Morning,

Off for 2 weeks to the Dordogne region, Saussignac.

I was originally planning on hiring a bike, but the cost of hiring + the delivery of the hire bike was very high in my opinion. So bought myself a bike bag and intending to take my own.

I’ve a choice of 2, Ribble Gravel SL which I have 2 sets of wheels for, but would likely just take a spare set of tyres. Or a Canyon Ultimate CFX.

The Canyon is a nicer road ride, lighter and easier to climb on. Drawbacks are gravel capability and I bought it 4 years ago, so it’s a rim brake model.

Anyone who has cycled there, am I likely to find decent gravel riding or am I best off with an out and out road bike?

Thank you

ALawson

I took a S Works Tarmac (that doesn’t venture onto gravel), there 4 years ago: Apart from it being about 36-40° every day I covered a reasonable distance with family back in the gitè. Loverly place.

Currently in Rhodes sweating my proverbial off! Loads of very punchy climbs!

Not gravel but loads of off road paths and roads that go cross country and through the vines. It’s surprisingly hilly so don’t think it’s going to be a breeze.
I would stick with a road bike so you can discover the area more extensively.

Wine tasting at Chateau Thenac is worth it.Last time we went it was 10€ and Caroline is always keen to sell you a bottle of red.
