Anyone got one or ridden one?

I currently ride a derestricted Giant Road E+ 1 Pro when commuting - its a pretty rare beast that is road-biased but has a powerful motor. I average around 23mph on average and really enjoy riding it to work.

The only things I wish I could change;

- lighter weight please
- electronic gears

The Canyon Grail on seems to fix my 2 issues.

I test rode one last week, and really liked it - it felt higher quality than the Giant, lighter and noticeably more powerful up hills.

But at £4.8k for the base model with electronic gears, and £6.1k for the one with better groupset and wheels, I thought it was a thing to consider next year.

However looking at Canyon's website today, they have discounted them by £700 and £950 respectively, and combined with my cycle to work scheme 40% saving, I'm sorely tempted.

My only main worry is the Bosch motor, I ride FULL ON and derestricted, can these motors take a pounding?

Why not get an electric moped and not risk 6 points on your licence?

I can’t speak for longevity but had same thoughts about E bike motors when de restricted. They’ll be used more , that’s for sure, but not necessarily under more stress. After all they are working at full power accelerating you to 15.5mph another 5 or so with decent cadence and momentum isn’t going to make much difference.

But… the motor will usually be getting a break in between bursts, whereas you’d have to do so manually by turning assistance off.

If you’re set on de restricting check that you can - I have a Brose motor and couldn’t find a tuning system for it when I looked. There are other options however , such as badassbox which hijacks the speed sensor signals.
