Buenos Dias smile

Am off to Mallorca soon and keen to hire something aspirational for a few days - Lighthouse, Sa Collobra, etc etc

Have heard good things of Pinarello but am having no joy with the Experience website for reasons that escape me

Canyon pricing looks good however we are staying just outside Pollenca and Id rather not spend another couple of days ferrying rental bikes around the island

Consequently recs welcome for reputable hire of high end bikes within a decent radius of Pollenca

Cheers

We’ve used Bike Hire Mallorca last couple of times and they are pretty decent. Located in Puerto Pollensa.

Currently in Puerto Pollenca, and there are loads of places that do bike hire. Availability is also very good as it’s hot cycling out here at the moment, and not a lot of people
Wanna ride in this heat.

Most hire places deliver to your hotel/villa so up to you what you get. Use it as a chance to try a different brand or stick to what you know.

If you get stuck, give me a shout and I’m sure I’ll be able to help one way or another.

Chris.

I have used this place in the past - the service was fine but I didn't really rate the Trek Emondas - heavy with naff tyres.

I've seen loads of these Cube bikes being ridden around all over the island, so they mustn't be too bad - di2 equipped too.

These guys are good too, but bikes are usually booked well in advance so may not have any availability

Bruce & the gang at PCH are a good shout. Massi & Colnago are his usual hire bikes in varying specs. There are guided rides from the shop on Tuesday, Thursday & Saturdays with a return to the shop for a chin wag & a few cold ones if you fancy a group ride.

I've hired two bikes when staying in Port Pollensa and was happy with both.

One thing to remember is they have their brakes setup the wrong way round in euroland.
Rented some bikes from Canyon in Lisbon and they weren't able to swap the brakes around which made going downhill on them pretty scary and I had to take it very slow.

I guess with older bikes they could swap the cables over fairly easily (even if it meant re-wrapping the bar tape), but with hydraulic disks you can't switch them without bleeding the brakes, a lot more of a faff.

The Piranello place had some bikes set up with UK brakes but otherwise it can catch you out. I had fun descending Alpe D'heuz and locking up the rears heading towards a hairpin a few times.

Although I got used to it in Mallorca pretty quickly.

It's wrong - It's ridiculous to have motorbike brakes standardised with front on the right worldwide and not follow through with the same standard for bicycles.

First time I borrowed a friend's MTB with the wrong setup I also thought I'd get used to it quickly but as soon as I had to quickly react in a corner I went straight over the bars, not really something you'd get used to in a few days.

Any recommendations around C'an Picafort?

We're heading out for a family holiday from 9-16 September and I'm hoping to get a couple of bikes for me and the wife. She'll just do short loops but I'm hoping to do the Cap Formentor ride (still need to plan a route and see if it's viable / if I have enough brownie points!)

Lol.
You do know bicycles existed before motorbikes right? Just because motorbikes have a standardised front brake right lever setup, why should bicycles?Just because the UK sets their brakes up this way doesn’t make the rest of the world wrong.

Anyway, to the OP, another recommendation for PCH in Pollensa from me.

Ditsches bike world in C'an Picafort. Hired a nice Willier bike from them. Did Cap Formentor from C'an Picafort. 86km round trip. Pretty easy route, C'an to Alcudia then Polensa then up and down and up and down & repeat on the way back. The road out is great as its on cycle lane next to carriage way. I left by 06:30. First 20km flew by as it was flat. The bike was brilliant, excellent mechanical condition and comfy.

Early start is seriously advised. Temp hit 38c on the way back up the last climb but this was in early june.
Need to get properly fit as i want to go back and do "Sa Calobra".

I hate flying big time but i said i would as long as i could hire a bike.

Good to know there are alternatives available.
Booked to stay at Playa de Muro in October, and the hotel apparently has a selection of Cube bikes to rent, noting there are a bunch of cycling stores pretty close to it, too.

I'm not as fit as I should be, but I will give plenty of hills a go!

I have hired from the Pinarello Experience in Pollenca, and they were excellent. Great efficient service, and bikes were in superb condition.
