Roof mount advice needed/
Discussion
Getting back into my mountain biking and wanting to go further afield. I have the full thule system which I used when I had my x6 with the roof bars but can't use them on the m4. I've looked at the seasucker. Has anyone used one and let me know the good / bad / ugly? Are there any alternatives to the seasucker talon?
Also, I have a rocky mountain growler 40. The thing I'm getting lost on with the seasucker is the axle size. Based on the specs found here: https://intl.bikes.com/products/growler-40-22?vari... do I need any of the adapters for the talon or will the standard out of the box configuration work?
Is there an alternative I've not looked at? My bike is a 29er, XL, even with the front wheel off, it won't go in the boot, unless I'm doing it wrong. Appreciate any help

I have a Seasucker Hornet, which is little more than two suction cups that hold the handlebars. While not appearing very confidence-inspiring, the bike stays stuck to the back of my Cayman and the rack hasn't failed me in nine years.
On the basis that the Talon has many more suckers and a much better bike fixing system I'd say you'll be fine, though you do have to be careful to clean under the suckers to avoid paint/clear coat scratches.

Can you definitely not get the Thule's on the M4 with a different/compatible foot kit? My Yakima bars have been on 3 different vehicles with the appropriate footpack on each one.
No. I'm aware of the various foot-packs and have the ones from my x6 as well as a set for my sons VW Polo which, but the M4 doesn't have the ability. Someone linked to a DIY which means drilling into the carbon roof, but I know I'll mess it up regardless of how easy the DIY looks.klootzak said:

Good to know. I think I'll go for the seasucker based on the various reviews and youtube videosOn the basis that the Talon has many more suckers and a much better bike fixing system I'd say you'll be fine, though you do have to be careful to clean under the suckers to avoid paint/clear coat scratches.

You've mentioned the carbon roof which I was about to do... Are sea suckers compatible with cars with carbon roofs? No risk to damaging the carbon etc with a potentially quite heavy bike swinging around up there and twisting the roof???I recently bought a Rockbros suction bike rack for my Tesla, as I don't need to use it much and didn't want to pay a fortune for a proper Tesla fitted roof rack.
Cost about £140 from amazon, but available cheaper from ebay.
Can't fault it so far. Used it 6 or 7 times for my road bike and as far as I can see it is rock solid. When I drive a long way I stop every hour or so to check the suction but never found a problem,.

Rockbros came up on my radar this weekend. Do you have a link to the one you use or any pics of the install? Cost about £140 from amazon, but available cheaper from ebay.
