Hi all

Please go easy on me!

We have a cycle 2 work scheme but it is only via Halfords and limited to £1500.

Is it worth getting an e-bike from there with the tax saving (I am 40% tax rate), or ignore the salary sacrifice savings and get something better?

Are their e-bikes any good?

Use would be mainly just road biking / getting out and about / just trying to get fitter. We live in quite a hilly area so I just need a bit of help getting up the hills.

I have had a search on here but if I’m honest I’m a complete novice at this.

Thanks

My company used the same scheme.

I managed to get my bike from Chain Reaction Cycles online using the Halfords Voucher.

You just have to ask the cycle2work people to change it over once you have found a bike

hope this helps

My employer uses the same scheme. I was able to use at my local bike store and top up. Have a look on their website to see which independent stores are near you. You'll get a much better bike.

To get the tax saving you must stay with your employer for the full four year term.

If you leave before the end of the 4 year term you will be charged the full amount for the bike plus the purchase levy.

This Raleigh looks decent enough for £1500.

The only real disappointment is the 300wH battery, I didn’t think they actually made them any more (Bosch usually start at 400wH).

So yeah, apart from needing to charge it more often and not having quite as much range, it’s pretty good.

Thank you all for the replies - really helpful thank you.

In relation to the leaving before 4 years and losing the tax benefits, that is a real deal breaker for me.

The scheme looks like payments are squished in to 12 months - I will have a look to see if it applies to leaving the company within those 12 months or whether it is 4 years.
