Per my post on the cycled to work thread, had a bit of a slice & dice issue on the way to work yesterday. Net result was only a small piercing of the inner tube but my bum nearly swallowed the saddle as the rear tried to overtake the front going round a roundabout.

I’m in 2 minds for the solution here.

I have a pair of Continental Ride Tour tyres sat in the garage that I had on my first gravel bike and by all accounts, the internet seems to believe at fairly bomb proof. But they’re every bit as heavy as you would expect, 920g per tyre!

The Vittoria Terrenzo Zero tyres fitted to the bike I quite like. They’re reasonably grippy and roll pretty well, I’ve got no real designs on doing any proper off road work. They’re only 420g per tyre.

So I’m slightly loathe to fit the Contis and add over 1kg of rotating mass to the wheels, even though it’s purely a workhorse for commuting and runs to the shops.

Does anyone have experience of running tyre liners for added puncture protection?

Found Panaracer do a kevlar version or Zefal plastic tape. I fitted something similar to my MTB back in the 90s but never used it on a 700c bike.

I’ve tried Tannus on a mountain bike, but really didn’t like them. They were a nightmare to fit and made the tyre squirm in the corners, and feel lifeless otherwise. I just stick with tubeless and decent sealant and use a plug for anything the sealant can’t handle_

Marathon Plus - pretty much puncture proof, I’ve crashed heavily twice now with them on commuter bike, and they appear barely worn in. Nearly 1kg each tire though in 38cc size.

I have put some tire liners on the road bike, not done enough miles yet to tell if they work.

Rimpact. I run them on all my bikes and they do CX and Gravel/XC inserts that should fit.
