My wife and I are finally going overseas this year for the first time since Covid from where my fitness has dropped and weight has increased!

I would always hire a road bike in either Tenerife or Gran Canaria and I probably covered the vast majority of the southern routes on both islands.

This year I will still hire a bike but with battery assistance.

Road bikes appear to be limited to bikes with 350Wh batteries which I suspect will limit mileage, e-MTBs are appealing for battery capacity but route planning may be a lot trickier.

Keen to hear of others who've faced a similar situation.

Speak to Bike Point. I’m sure they have E bikes when were in there last year El Medano, email can be a bit clunky but they are Spanish / German run with good English.

I don't know how good you are on a bike but there's a great guide in El Medano who lift assists you up the mountain and brings you back down through the forests etc.

You need to be probably 7/10 skillwise though depending on route choices. Fitness? Meh it's lift assist.

My MTB skillz are not what they used to be so any off-roading would have to of the non-technical variety.
