We’re off to Europe between 10th June and 2nd July and I’m taking my road, enduro and downhill bikes. We’re touring around but a client has offered me their chalet in Les Arcs for a few nights and although I’ve not been before, I’ve always been attracted to the trails there.

Unfortunately the bike park doesn’t appear to officially open until 8th July by which time we’ll be back home unfortunately. Has anyone ridden there and is there any riding available outside of the bike park opening days?

Not for about near enough a decade. It looks like the natural supermorzine descent has become more bike park as has alot of the other more natural trails there frown

I'm planning on visiting samoens

Yes, I think that’s exactly where it is. I actually quite like a bike park but I can’t understand why it’s only open for a bout 6 weeks from July. Surely it’s not a weather issue, although I know the area is high. I just can’t find any information on if I can still take my bike on the lifts and ride the area outside of the bike park opening days.

Not heard of samoens, I’ll take a look. Thanks.

Quite a bit of it opens 17th June.. cachette and transarc 1 is running, you just can’t get transarc 2 up to go over the top but those 2 lifts make quite a bit accessible.

I was there for 3 weeks in 2019.... I would say the amount of time I spent in the bike park side was probably about 10% so many trails about, lots of great steep natural tracks everywhere too.

Woodstock on the Vallandry side, great warm up track, bit like an old school DH track, nothing to worry about on it, natural blue trail, I lapped that thing a lot, dunno while, just smiles for miles!

I'm heading back on the 7th July this year, can't wait.

Thanks MDUBZ, I saw that but wasn't sure they'd take bikes on the lifts. So essentially, the bike park isn't open but I can still catch those lifts with my bike and do some of the mountain? This is perfect! Thankyou.

Great news, so even without the bike park there are loads of trails?

I would imagine after the distractors winter season they'll be keen to open up as much as possible as soon as possible. The trails will be open I am sure, it'll be the lifts that limit you. But there are so many trails, did a lot of big days out last time, I was staying with friends who live and guide there though so was in good company.

I was there a few years ago, it was the place to do if you'd gotten bored with PDS or fed up of bad weather, since then other resorts have taken that spot and PdS have done a lot of work to weather proof their network.

Bike Park opens the 17th of June, whether you in or out of the park, you'll need chairlift access for riding.

A few days will be perfect I think, the Bike Park runs are pretty good, but they're limited and rarely end at the same lift station you started, which needs a bit of thought, but made for some good loops. We had a guide for a few days, sent the usual "what do you fancy e-mail" I replied "fast, flowing single track" which somehow, he interpreted as "the steepest, rockiest, rootiest riding you'll ever experience in your life". There’s a lot of that sort of thing outside the park. Also, it’s quite high up I think, top lift in the bike park is 2700m but I think you can go higher, there was certainly a lot of snow in July at the top.

Have to say, as a holiday destination, it's okay, no better. Les Arcs is more of a loose collection of very small holidays villages dotted around a mountain, and at least back then, it was mostly closed in Summer. real ghost town feel. Borg is okay, it's an normal, working French town rather than a Tourist town like say Morzine.

Thanks folks that’s great news. I can’t work out why there seems to be different opening days for the bike park. We only have the chalet for 2 nights so I don’t think we’ll be staying there that long. We’re touring the alps before and after so there’ll be other places that we visit. I just wanted to make sure there’s riding before I take up the offer of the chalet.

Conditions: The lower chairlifts come in to operation in June and the the higher ones come into action in July.. simples.

Ah ok, I hadn’t thought that as late as June but I guess it is high.
