Helping out this year. I’m at the first cattle grid as you climb Cold Fell Road. I should have my club banners out, North Cheshire Clarion.

Don’t go off too fast. Make sure you remember to eat. Don’t go too fast on the downhills as some of them are very steep with tight turns and poor road surfaces. Get in a group on the A66. Look up, the scenery is fantastic. Oh and don’t go off too fast.

It's my second one - this is all great advice. The descents from Honister, Hardknott and Wrynose need extreme caution! Take the ride super easy until the base of Honister as the hard work doesn't start until then. Hardknott pass on the horizon is a scary sight at mile 95, but once you get to the top of that the hard work is done!

I am doing it on Sunday as my first time - just looking to get round and try and get a reasonable distance up Hardknott before putting my feet down!

Been doing a lot of training and did Tour de Manc (200km) last weekend which was hard, but okay.

Good luck to those taking part!

How did everyone get on?

Was my first time yesterday - ended up with an official time of 8:24 - I'm happy with that for a first go. Quads were (and currently are) aching in places they don't usually (maybe that was my idiotic bike fit 'tinkering' in the past week biggrin)

I found Newlands hot and tough (that's where the quad ache started), had to walk parts of Hardknott (I've managed it with no major issue before but it's a little different with 92 hilly miles preceding it!)

The weather was perfect. I just wish I'd brought a short sleeve jersey! Quite liked the gloomy bit on and after Cold Fell which cooled me down a bit.

I'm definitely going to enter for 2024 and better that time!

Well done - nice ride!

I got round (first time) in 9:49 - never done any of those passes before and wow they are tough. I pushed up the last 100m maybe of Hardknott, but got up everything else, albeit slowly.

Like you, I dressed as though it was going to snow - long base layer, under vest and long jersey - ditched the under vest at first feed, but was still roasting!

I loved it though and believe I could go a fair bit quicker in 2024 smile

Well-done to all the other riders. I really enjoyed it. My time was 7.53 but more pleased that I was able to make it up all the climbs including Hard Knott pass.

8:06 for me - 9 minutes better than last year but disappointed not to come in under 8 hours. I was broken for the last 5 miles.

Rode it all with no walking though which was the #1 aim for me!

Great weather again this year

Well done everyone.

I’ll be doing it next year after getting a guaranteed entry after volunteering this year.

Me too. I hope the weather was better on Hardknott for the riders than it was when I drove over en route to my marshalling point - I could barely see 20 yards in front of me. Chapeau to all of you that took part - still plenty of smiles as you passed the 100 mile point thumbup

Hope the rider who was medevac'd off the pass (Wrynose I think but not sure) is OK.

I was on Cold Fell Road. It was like this much of the day. That bit of road wasn’t named ironically.

Two friends did it, managed 7.37, said that it was mostly decent weather apart form the back half & up Hardnott.

Big shift though. Full kudos to anyone that completed.

Visibility on Hardknott was about 20m on the upper slopes

Looks decent doesn’t he. Hopefully Flávio doesn’t burn him out as I feel that’s happened with a few.

Surprised him and a former elite rider were crowing about ‘winning’ though!

I have a feeling he will go all the way to the WT as long as he keeps the weight off. And then as an old man i can hang in the toilet the photos of me getting rolled by him at track league.
