OK, baby steps. Its been over a decade since I last rode FIXED. First I'm going to go 16/38 on an old XT chainset/Road HT2 BB with spacers... then when I'm comfortable I'll switch to a track chainset and fixed 17/48. But for now.... New frame/forks, new Halo Aerorage rear and brand new (sat for many years new/never used front and a mix of mtb bits from the parts bin):

I am going to remove the sticker off the seat tube (it's basically a Dolan Precursa)

Anyone else a fan of fixie/singlespeed?

Yes, singlespeed at least. Specialized Langster on the road and a rigid Cannondale 29er off road. If the garage was on fire and I could only save one bike, it would be the MTB singlespeed.

Hats off to you for riding fixed. Proper job!

Here’s my track bike which is a obviously fixed gear and probably shouldn’t be ridden on the road but it’s running clinchers and why not! I use it on the Bath/Bristol railway path (which is naturally pretty much flat) and it’s running 50:15 or 87 inches if you prefer. The cat is famous and always around the Bitton railway station looking for fuss…

Given your fork has a hole for a front brake, I would recommend fitting one.

Found these in the shed, probably a decade ago!

Looks good!

I am planning to build up something similar, but single speed, rather than fixed, as a commuter bike.

Here's mine.

An ancient Falcon gaspipe special that I resurrected about fifteen years ago. Initially fixed, but after a couple of prangs (largely due to rider incompetence) I switched back to singlespeed.

Currently running 39x16, Salsa Delgado CX wheels and 700x30 Schwalbe tyres, so very far from lightweight ... maybe 12.5kg all up.

Nevertheless I ride this more than my "best" bike (3T Exploro in road trim).

Here's mine - sorry for the rubbish photo - it is the only one i have of it (and its currently locked in my shed waiting for the weather to get better).
Its an original mongoose Maurice with the flippy rear wheel (so fixed or free-wheel) that i bought brand new when they were released (what, 10 - 12 years back).
The only things i've modified on it are the stem, pedals (changed since that photo was taken - its now running a set of orange Nukeproof spiked pedals) and fresh brake pads.
I had to double down on the rim tape as it was really prone to punctures.

1kg of salt laid down in lines of the flooring, left for rain you'll find no weeds for upto 2months..

Originally bought as a winter training bike from SJS Cycles 20+ years ago. At least the frame, forks, wheels, cranks, seat post and bars are still original! Recently resprayed it and renewed the drivetrain. I like to shrink the chainring every 8 years or so to keep my knees happy smile

I bought this Dawes Fox in 1983 and converted it to singlespeed about ten years ago - going fixed would’ve meant buying wheels and I’m also not sure the frame would be up to it.

I rode it the other day on the roads from reading station to their velodrome and back, so i guess it counts as a fixie.

Can you guess where my username comes from? biggrin
Falcon's are underrated, my favourite fixed is an old 70's Falcon Professional 531 steel I have had for thirty five years, currently my 'Beer Bike' covered in beer labels smile 72" medium gear

1950's Lugless Claud Butler 72" fixed

Custom Geoff Roberts Columbus Spirit steel 49 x 18 gear

Thanks for the tip wobble - you can tell gardening/grounds maintenance is not my primary call in life

This is mine, cost £25 with a stuck seat post. Stripped it down and painted it up a little different. Good fun but must remember to keep pedalling. Lol

Your light one is probably similar to mine. Mine is insanely nimble and twitchy. So twitchy = fun

Inspired by this thread, I have bought a mongoose Maurice as a commuter bike. Running it as singlespeed, rather than as a fixie though.
