XT Hollow tech 2 onto a English threaded track frame?

Basically cosmetically worn cranks....single ring to make a rat commuter?

Shimano mountain bike crank spindles are a couple of mm longer than the road spindles (that's why shimano bottom brackets are engraved with "road" or "mountain"), something to do with having to accommodate a chain device or BB mount front mech behind the drive side bottom bracket cup.

Guess it would need either a MTB bottom bracket or some combination of spacers to get the chainline and bearing preload correct.

You will need an MTB bottom bracket plus mount the chainring on the inside of the spider to get the chainline correct.

Stick some spacers in the BB, road/track bikes are 68mm wide, threaded MTB ones are 73mm.

Think you need one of these.

I think it comes with 3 x 2.5mm spacers. On a 68mm shell it is 2 on drive side and 1 on NDS.

Though I have fitted cranks with only 1 on drive side and 2 on NDS when I wanted the chain line 2.5mm further left.
