I'm looking at getting a Canyon Aeroad through my employer's cycle to work scheme. The one that I'm interested in is currently unavailable and the Canyon website just says 'Coming soon', with no estimated date for when 'soon' might be. Does anyone have any experience of how long the wait usually is? Some of the other models which are currently out of stock have May or June listed for expected delivery, but there's no indication on the model I'm looking at.

I was waiting for them to be available for months, as soon as they did the red-purple fade one appeared and now I'm waiting for those to be available....

If I wanted a bike definitely for this year I’d be looking for something that’s actually in stock. Otherwise it’s going to be a lottery, whoever you go with. Canyon have had some major issues with unpredictable delivery in the past for example.

I don’t necessarily need the bike right now as I’ve got a perfectly good one that I can use. Although as we all know, when you decide you want something, you want it now!

After spending hours looking at what’s in stock with other suppliers last night, I keep coming back to Canyon and also read some glowing reviews of the new Ultimate.

So I’ve ordered a C2W voucher that will cover the cost of either an Aeroad or an Ultimate and put myself on the notification list for both. Let’s see how long I have to wait now.

Avalability is based on the factory. The factory is dependent on the parts.

Stock drops are on a Monday, the best way is to sign up and wait for a notification, although they tend to notify in batches of first come first served on the notifications.

Always been like this for Canyon.

Ended up buying a second hand speedmax.

They are great bikes. Have a Ultimate, Speedmax, and Aeroad.

Having spoken to the bike fitter I use, he’s suggested that I get a larger sized frame than the sizing tool on the Canyon website suggests. Which has the happy bonus that there are bikes in stock in the larger size.

Now I just need my C2W voucher to come through before they sell that stock and I’m back to square one!

I’m in a bit of a quandary at the moment about whether to get an Aeroad or Ultimate. I already have an endurance bike so am looking for something a bit more racy. My only concern is that the Aeroad might be a bit too racy for me.

I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on how much quicker the Aeroad is over the Ultimate and whether it’s worth the compromise on comfort?

Contact them and ask? They should give at least an approximate date. Also be wary of buying a frame size recommend by a bike fitter unless you’ve worked with them before and/or they are reputable. Better to buy based on any current bike geometry and err on the small side if you are borderline. It’s much easier to make a small bike fit using a longer stem for example, but if the frame is too big you’re generally stuck.

OP - I was in this exact same position last year. Had an endurance bike and wanted an Aeroroad. At the time they were giving estimated dates but that kept being pushed back until it eventually became ‘coming soon’ (which as I understand means they haven’t a clue when it will arrive). FWIW it was the DI2 mid-range carbon (CFR?) I was looking at. (I think DI2 is particularly supply limited with SRAM equivalent being easier for bike manufacturers to get hold of)

One thing I did learn through research is that those notification emails are often late - stock will be updated on the system but will be gone by time you get the email. If you’re technically minded, Google the solution for this - you can get some sort of browser extension that will notify you when a stock page has changed so you can see if you’re bike is in stock.

I gave up and did what another poster suggested. I went on Sigma and found a bike in stock I liked (actually it turned out it wasn’t in stock but Sigma honoured the price and it arrived in 8 weeks). It’s a Tarmac SL7 Pro. Early days but happy with it so far. However, whilst v similar spec to the Aeroroad, it was about £2k more… which is probably why Canyons are never in stock.

Good luck with it.

I have used the fitter before for both bike and shoe/cleat fits and have always been very happy with the results. They’re also very well-known in the industry and have plenty of pro level athletes on their books so I’m comfortable taking a steer from them.

They basically said that I’d be looking at a 36mm drop at the front compared to my current bike on a medium frame (which is the size Canyon recommends) versus a 16mm drop on a large. I’m 6’ 1” so I don’t think a large frame would be too big for me and both of my other bikes are L/58.

36mm just seems too big a change for my liking so I think I will take their advice and go large. With the added benefit that Canyon have large bikes currently in stock.

Thanks for that. I did wonder whether having no due date meant stock was imminent or ‘no idea when’. Sounds like it’s the latter! If my C2W voucher comes through before the stock goes, I think I’ll be going for this.

I think Canyon's sizing recommendations are generally borked, it recommended a small Aeroroad for me but the seat post would need to be extended past its upper limit to match my current seat height. A medium gives me almost exactly the same position as my current road bike.

My ultimate CF SL is an all-round set up with distance, climbing, and comfort in mind, bit more upright, but has mavic cosmic's on. It's quick, stiff, light, and fast IMHO. A four season bike - looked after, but not a garage princess.

My Aeroad is slammed, twitchy, on DT Swiss deep rims, feels much faster than the ultimate. Comfortable enough, but set up for out right speed and aggressive riding for me. Not as enjoyable out of the saddle as the ultimate. It's my summer bike, ultimately, total garge queen.

My goto is the ultimate believe it or not. It is a total all rounder especially on some decent aero rims.

I am a medium at 180cm. Canyon are normally pretty good at returns - if you want to send it back.

I’ve got a medium and just under 6.1

Bike feels no faster or slower than the tarmac it replaced.

Are you anywhere near Dorking, Surrey? There’s a Canyon affiliated bike hire place
https://just-pedal.com/bikehire/

You can test/hire more than one (book btw) and take it up Box Hill, or any other roads in the area,

I did this to a) get a better idea which size is right for me and b) decide if I wanted and Endurace or an Ultimate (the latter!!! I was going to buy the former). They also have an Aeroad.

Then you know you are buying the right one following that. Also you get the bike hire cost taken off your Canyon order.

As for availability, I’d say if it’s not got a date shown, then don;t assume anytime soon. As already mentioned, they have stock drops on Mondays, so worth keeping eye on that.

I ordered back in Jan for 27-Feb to 11 Mar delivery but it came on the 22nd so almost a week early biggrin

When I bought my Ultimate I was on the cusp between two sizes (L and XL at 6'3"), and I was advised to size down in that situation rather than up. I ended up getting the L and while it took a while to get used to the geometry (it's quite an aggressive drop compared to what I'd been used to previously, though less so than the Aeroad I assume) I now love it but I am probably right at the upper limit (the seat post is certainly about as high as it can go). So I would think at 6' 1" the L would be just about right.

Great bike by the way! Had it for four years now and never had any issues.

Funnily enough, I am same height and in Canyon tool even I put my height at 6'6" it still said L so I think it's more driven by your inside leg measurement.
I have seat post at 4.5 I think which is bang in the middle (Ultimate CF SL 2023 btw)

Thanks for all the responses and information. I've had a good chat with my bike fitter and we've agreed that a large frame is the best way to go for me. It will be slightly lower at the front than my existing bike, but not a significant change and there's the added benefit of there being stock in that size.

I've also decided to go for the Aeroad rather than the Ultimate since my current bike is quite a good all-rounder so it would be nice to have something a bit different. My employer has just approved the voucher from the C2W scheme, so just need to wait for it to come through and I can get the order in. Should hopefully have the bike sometime early next month, all being well.

Thank you! Saving that link.

Toying with an Aeroad but right on the border between S and M.
