I'm considering buying one of these or something similar:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174678100561?mkcid=16&a...

Has anyone used one? Is it more trouble than it's worth?
I need to keep a mountain bike indoors and this seems like the best option for me due to space constraints.

There are of course alternative options, however my walls are lath and plaster, I'm better off spreading the weight across it.

If that's your idea of vfm then I'd hate to know what you call pricey. IMO £80 for a piece of ali with a few folds and a length of ply is taking the piss.

Nice try. I'll take it into consideration. The only thing that irks me about a design such as that repeated contact with the frame will wear through the paint eventually.

You're welcome? rolleyes

FWIW, it has felt at every point that touches the frame. It's also very sturdy and easy to fit. I guess you get what you pay for.

I have one of these, as I have to hang one of my bikes up out of the way in my office.

Yeah I looked at that. Did you miss the bit in my opening post where I stated that I have lath and plaster walls?

I did state that I found what I thought was the best option, and queried if anyone has any experience of using one. That's not a lot to ask.

The folded box thing isn't bad idea, which is why I said I'd take it into consideration. I'm just not going to be taken for £80+ when I can spend less than half of that for something similar:

Excellent. Do you find it easy to mount/dismount a bike?

Yes, my wife would struggle to get one off the top, hence why hers is on the bottom. But I don’t have a problem with it on a 9.5kg gravel bike.

I didn’t get the wheel brackets, they would probably help because you could sit the bike on those, then hold the saddle with 1 hand and align the pedal with the other hand.

Without them I set the pedal so it is forward of where it needs to be, put the bike on forward then move it back ways until the pedal is in the correct place.

I just use simple screw-in hooks and hang bikes vertically.

You would just need to locate a wall stud to screw it into as the lath-and-plaster construction probably wouldn't support much on its own between studs.

Some people mount them high enough that the bike is fully hanging from the hook, at the moment I have them so the back wheel is still on the ground supporting most of the weight and the hook just holds the bike vertical. Not sure which way is best, both seem to work. Fully hanging from hook is probably more stable as long as the hook is strong enough.

HughG have you got a link to your ones? Are they holding the pedal?

Yep hold the pedal, link below. I changed the wall plugs for some decent rawl ones (mainly because the bikes are over the car) but the bracket itself is very solid.

Anyone tried a wall mounted workstand bracket, clamp on the seat post type of thing?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/403472960760
£15

Or maybe a roof rack bike holder could go on the wall and hold a bike, when it's not on the roof of the car?

I've got one of those in my workshop, just about copes with a full-suspension ebike. All other bike types have been no issue.

Stronger that it looks in my experience.

I use these for full suspension ebikes, no issues. I have two sitting in a box that are surplus to requirements too...

A tiny bit of more positive attitude can go a long way...

It's all down to if you need purely functional bracket, or if aesthetics are important (and how important).

Mottez bike pedal wall mount from Halfords (£10).

Works well in my shed.
