I know, they are all uncomfortable.

Squashing your temple into strips of hard plastic is not the greatest feeling but after a couple of scares recently I feel I need to be sensible going forward.

Any recommendations?

You'll have to try some on. Heads are different shapes.

Personally, I never find a Giro comfortable, but Bell are better for me.

If it's an open one I find puting some draft excluder foam strips on the ribs inside helps.

I like the POC brand for comfort. My current POC is the Omne Air, its a great combination of value and quality IMO.

I am intrigued I must admit.

What on earth is the difference between a £30 piece of foam and plastic and £150 pounds lump of foam and plastic?

Some of it will be the tech you're paying for. The attempts to create technology like MIPS that's supposed to reduce brain movement inside the skull in the event of a collision. Whether that works and to what extent is debatable however.
The rest is ergonomics, style, how good the straps are, etc. As far as I can tell.

Many thanks. I took your advice and it arrived today - it's a lovely thing, fits perfectly and is much more comfortable than others I have tried
