Need some ideas. I have Ultegra pedals and my current shoes I've had over 10yrs aren't comfy anymore and are starting to fail in parts. I'm a size 12/13 which does limit things and many end up being too narrow. Can anyone recommend a good pair? Ideally less than £200.

I have had a pair of Shimano shoes for yonks. They are fine.

I'm same size as you (12.5) and got these last year and seem to do the job. And half the price of your budget - there is a more expensive model that has 2 rather than 1 boa dials.

I paid about £100.

I suppose it somewhat depends on what type of cyclist you are, an aero-weight weenie or just a normal enthusiast etc.

I just do a couple of K a year, for leisure, 25-60miles etc. and mine do the job as well as could be expected.

Note - In winter I put on overshoes and sometimes heat warmers if a long ride.

Shoes are very personal ... try on a few pairs and try and work out which is comfortable in a shop. The problem is you can't really try before you buy in anywhere I know. Most people I know tend to stick with the same brand once they've chosen a show they like ... I think Shimano are pretty good for larger sizes as well.

Worth looking at Lake too if you need a slightly wider fit. Brands like Fizik, Giro, Specialized all seem to come up quite narrow in my experience, but as suggested above go and try a few on

10 years? Wow. I'm lucky to get a season out of mine.

I'm a solid Shimano S-PHYRE convert. Crazy comfy (also use Sidas custom insoles), but I've got some Magic ones too and they are a great more budget option.

I use Bontrager Circuit series, really comfy and fit a wide foot really well, funky colours too and way below your budget.

It's 10 years because what happens is I think about shoes, I start doing more cycling as weather improves, not much then in stock as everyone is doing it so I persevere but then forget I want to change them until now. I have a white Shimano pair currently but want something lighter and comfier. Like the idea of the BOA dials.

The S-PHYRE are super light and have BOA dials. Most comfy shoes I've ever ridden in.

If you have wider feet I’d strongly recommend a pair of Lake CX238. They’ll come in just over £200 but are fantastic for wider feet. They also offer a wide fit option if you have particularly wide feet like I do.

They also have a comprehensive size guide on their website so you can measure your foot and make sure they will fit before you buy.

Not anywhere near using up your budget but I highly highly recommend the DHB Dorica lace up shoes … available in road and mtb versions. Currently either £50 or £60 though I paid just £38 for mine.

I do not get on with BOA dials at all and lace up is brilliantly flexible and easy to get to fit perfectly and also really comfortable.

They have nylon soles that are fantastically stiff if not up to carbon levels of stiffness.

Broadly agree with this

Spesh shoes 'just fit' me whilst most other brands are too wide, too narrow or too something else

And Shimano are always too small for the same EU size

Theres no substitute for going to your LBS and trying a variety for size

If the LBS is run by tossers buy online at a discount when you get home
If they are decent people who give good service then do the right thing

Cheers

On that note, I bought of Amazon so easy return had the shoe size not been right.

I've got quite big and wide feet so always struggle. I ended up with some Bont ones that you put in the oven to custom mold. Very comfy.

I ordered a load off Wiggle and then sent the ones back I didn't want.

I got some Planet X ones for about £150. No complaints.

Currently in Fizik R1 Infinito and have the artica winter shoes also.

Size 11.

I’ve always found these comfortable and decent quality.

The R1 will just accept slightly thicker socks when it is cold and ideal with summer socks. The ARTICA is that good in the cold I can wear thin socks in them.

I bought a pair of the Artica last November to wear when I wanted to ride a prime bike but in the cold (different pedals compared to winter/gravel bikes) - still not used them, weather either been too nice to need them or to stty to ride a prime bike. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Was sick of overshoes and never found any which actually kept the water out.

They’re obviously a bit bulkier (Though with overshoes on, perhaps they are comparable), however once on the move they feel okay. The new ones look a bit less bulky but they have gone to neoprene around the ankle so wonder if they’ll lose the total waterproofing of the original.

They do keep feet really warm and dry. They were a game changer for me in wet/cold weather. Though not had them on this year as it has been pretty mild. Just summer shoe with vents taped up and the Castilli toe thingy on.
