I have been on a little quest recently to improve the ride of my hybrid bike as some of the routes I do have a few poor road surfaces.

So far I have upgraded tyres to tubeless and went from 32 to 35 and got upgraded wheels as well. I also changed the seat to a Selle SMP TRK gel which will take some getting used to but I think I will get along with it eventually.

I now find myself shopping for a carbon seat post to add that final bit of compliance. I still want a fast road hybrid so don't want any suspension but I do like the idea of getting a carbon seat post to go with the carbon fork supplied as standard.

Any recommendations around the 80 - 120 pound mark?

Hard to say at a distance but I suspect a CF seatpost won’t give a tangible improvement. It’s hard to weave compliance into an almost vertical tube, no matter what the marketing says.

Better would be to take 10psi out of your tyres. After that look for a tyre that is more compliant. Look for something over 200 TPI (threads per inch).

I have Hutchinson Override 35s tubeless and I am running them at 50psi and it is pretty comfortable - I guess I am just looking for an excuse to upgrade the bike.

Also, while fitting the new saddle the bike clamp system was pretty infuriating so any upgrade to that will be welcome. The new saddle is set back to its limit as well so I think I need an offset post for better adjustability there.

Looking at either this

I think you’re probably right to expect it to make no appreciable difference - it’s really only d-shaped posts that might do that.

FWIW I bought a Zipp Service Course SL last year - it works just fine.

Ritchey sell one with flex designed into it, the ‘flex logic’ or something like that. I have fitted one to my aluminium topstone and I like to think it has removed some of the road buzz from my bum.

Then again, I also run fairly low psi tubeless wheels so who knows smile
