Got one of these for my son for going to school. He likes it but it is a very different bike from the mountain bike he was on previously. The 32mm Vittoria tyres are very slick like and hard and I am thinking that particularly during winter time it would be a good idea to give him some extra grip and comfort.

Would some 35mm or 38mm Schwalbe Land cruisers go on those wheels? the guy at Halfords didn't know.

My Boardman 8.9e is essentially the same frame/fork, 35mm Marathons fit with no issues on the stock wheels.

I know from experience that a 38c schwalbe one speed will go on the boardman cxr and adv but not sure on the urb. Join the boardman owners fb group and ask there, they will know for sure.

I know that Halfords get a bit of stick on here but I thought I would share an excerpt from the prompt reply I got from their customer service team with the question as to whether I can fit 35mm Land cruisers in place of the 32mm Vettorias fitted.

"That's the easiest question I've had all day my friend, yes, yes those would fit and in my opinion would be an immense upgrade as I LOVE Schwalbe tyres, the compounds are better and offer FAR superior puncture protection as long as they are correctly inflated.
Land cruiser can be a bit weighty though so maybe have a look at marathons as they have good pressure allowance, amazing puncture protection and grip and sit a bit nicer in the frame."

I can't fault the enthusiasm laugh but surely Marathons are much more weighty than the entry level Schwalbe Land cruisers?

I like Marathons but they are a pain to fit and bloody heavy.

18month+ of riding in all conditions, zero punctures with Marathons on my Boardman. 4th ride out on the Creo running stock tires - puncture.

I wouldn't want to ride Marathons on a none eBIke though, the 35mm version I have on the Boardman are over 1.5kg combined just in tire weight!

I would also consider Schwalbe G One all rounds, I have 700c x 35 on my bike and they are brilliant, grippy but do not feel slow.

Marathons are hard work.

Having used both I’d take the g ones any day but only tubeless. They do puncture so tubeless is a heaven send. I only ever managed to puncture a marathon once and it was a slow so didn’t even notice until the day after. Even on an ebike it’s like riding on wood tyres vs the g one tubeless.

I put Land Cruisers on both my kids' bikes and whilst not the lightest tyres around, they're cheap, robust, grippy, and compliant. My kids have no complaints.
