Hi All,

Just looking for some advice please, i used to have my insurance for house and bikes with Pedal cover, service was great. However I belive they are now owned by Yellow Jersey.

I am currently going through the painful process of making a claim having been knocked off my bike by a car. over 6 months in and as much as i have replacement parts (painful process) to get my bike up and running, I have chased countless times to see how the claim is going againt the 3rd party, to which I dont get a direct answer other than "we will deal with it when we can". After countless discussions they are paying my excess back, however it is not an acceptance from the 3rd party, it is a gesture from my insurance company.

Could I ask anyone who they are insured with, is it a seperate bike and house policy, or is it a combined.

Thanks!

Separate policy with bikmo

Have 15k insured value at home and 10/11k on the road, costs me about £70 a month but I rode a very expensive bike so figured it's worth it.

When I had a crash back during lockdown, bike got written off and had the full 4.5k payout in my bank 3 days after submitting the claim.

This doesn't sound good. I have been with Pedal Cover for years, and did not realise that they had been taken over. I will be renewing next month, and had not planned on shopping around.

I don't know about YJ/PC's claim handling, but SOME 3rd party claims handlers don't really have a routine way to pursue 3rd parties, they deal with them the same as property damage/theft claims, so I'm not surprised to hear of that.

I know it's not much use now, but generally if a 3rd party is a motor vehicle then it's usually better to just contact their insurer and deal direct.

Personally I'm with Aviva home insurance and adding cycles was not a lot extra. The total cycle value is included within your contents cover though, so be sure that the amount is sufficient. The premium is based on the value of your most expensive cycle.

I’m with Yellow Jersey through Cycling UK.

Thankfully not had to use claims yet but this is a tad worrying.
