Brake pad retainers - more expensive are worse. Why ?
Discussion
My old cheap mountain bike has magnets to hold the brake pads in place.
Great. Doesn't wear out, not fiddly, usable by a mechanical idiot like me.
Just hold the pads someplace near their final destination and they jump into place.
New expensive road bike has fiddly little metal clips holding the pads in place.
Clips get broken easily, lost, are downright fiddly to install and I lose a few mm of
brake surface area in the slot for the clips to sit in.
Please educate me why metal clips are better than magnets. I can't see it at all.
