Apologies if this has already been posted.
But crikey the driver should have come to a stop and the dad should have told his kid to stop.
Cyclist has right of way as already overtaking parked cars?

Personally, and I don't care what the rules of the road are, I would have got my child to stop behind the white van when I saw the other car not giving way. Not worth the risk of squished child to prove a point to the internet.
Exactly. Obviously the oncoming car driver is a lemon, but honestly can't believe the risk this berk subjects his child to.I saw similar just this morning, here:
I was in a car, stopped at the lights on the left side just behind where the blue C-Max is. Red lights, obviously. Now, bear in mind the road markings have changed and there's now only one lane for traffic here, and a cycle box in front of the white line for cars, so cyclists are welcome to get in front and centre and await the green light to proceed. So there I am, stopped at the red light, when a 5-year old on a tiny bike (looking exactly like the child in the video in the original post of this thread) passes me on the inside, with his father on a bike behind, goes in front of my car, sails through the red light, and turns right, across a live traffic lane - there is traffic coming from the street on the left of me 20 yards ahead as they're on green. I just couldn't believe my eyes. They cut across a car coming out of that side road, the driver had to stop and just watched, goggle eyed and open mouthed as they wobbled through.
Who are these cretins? What is going on in their tiny, entitled minds?
There are a few things here.
1. I wouldn't put my 5y/o in this situation.
2. If I had been i would have made them give way before reaching the van since I know with almost 100% certainty that drivers will not give way to a bike in that situation even if it puts a child at risk.
3. If we had already passed the point of being able to bail out safely (say there were more parked vehicles before the van we ere already passing), then I would have been asserting my position on the RHS of the kid, making us the same width as a car, therefore discouraging/making it impossible for the oncoming driver to squeeze past (but of course being prepared to swerve in case they do still try it)
End of the day, it's not a national limit DC, it's a local road by housing and a park, you should be able to ride it with a 5 y/o safely. But you can't.

I thought the car was driving at a sensible speed, nice and slow, and as close to the parked cars on their nearside as could be achieved. The car could have given way, but I think there was enough space, for cyclists and the car. However, I'd like to think that if I saw the child on the bike I might have stopped just to be extra safe.

Non-Event..... Loads of room. Nobody got hurt.
But.... if I was that Dad, my 5 year old son would be nowhere near any of those cars!!
Apart from the kid bit am not sure what the issue is here. Anyone who actually cycles on UK roads regularly will be fine with that, if you weren't you would literally dare not go anywhere near a public road in the road on a pedal bike. Replace that car with a bus/lorry I would think twice, but even than filtering through gaps is simply a fact of life for UK cyclists. But.... if I was that Dad, my 5 year old son would be nowhere near any of those cars!!
Equally though am happy personally to accept the risks of daily cycling on UK roads, there is ZERO chance I would encourage or wany my daughter any where near a pedal bike. Using a pedal bike on UK roads is pretty much an adrenaline sport, we all know the risks, we all know the potential consequences of those risks, if you care about personal safety stay away from pedal bikes.

I'd want to see more of what lead up to that before passing any kind of judgement. Kept going back to the start wanting to see more but it's been clipped short. Deliberate?
That said, there's a lack of awareness and consideration from both sides IMO. Driver should have stopped or at least slowed to prevent them meeting in the pinch point. Cyclist and parent should have done the same considering the 5 year old child they were responsible for. I find the "keep going, keep going, keep going" quite odd.
st drivers exist and so do st cyclists. I'm both a driver and a cyclist and see this every day and drive/cycle accordingly. Never assume someone has seen you or the sign/signal that'll stop them from driving into you.

If you replaced the child with a dog, or even a squirrel, I hope everyone here would stop. The driver is a clueless callous bd.
It's a quiet residential street, the child was with his dad. Anyone saying the driver did nothing wrong should hand their licence in.
Would you stop if that was an adult on the bike? You wouldn’t have been required to. It's a quiet residential street, the child was with his dad. Anyone saying the driver did nothing wrong should hand their licence in.
But an out of control, clearly unstable 5 year old child, yes you should stop.
The issue here is that the driver shouldn’t be having to make a decision on whether to stop or not, that child shouldn’t be in the road.

In summary. Driver was a prick and should've stopped.
