Thanks Ben. Is this good for a new install of a dropper?

Do you mean seat post into frame?

If so any decent waterproof grease will do the job fine. You can buy a special type for it I’m sure, but a generous smear of any good quality grease will do.

Ahh sorry, I replied before seeing your edit of the OP.

That not for the install, just for keeping the dropper stanchion clean and smooth over time (and suspension stanchions too).

For the install into frame it might depend whether its carbon or alloy frame, but doesn't generally need to be anything special.

Yes into the frame as I have just purchased a new dropper.

Anything in particular, what would you recommend?

I will pick some of that up anyway, thanks for that.

It’s a alloy frame that the post is going into.

Anti seize compound. I use the park tool stuff, but they all do largely the same thing.
Regular grease will also work

I'm sure it's fine. You are paying for the marketing though.

Park ASC-1 is good for this sort of thing (for metal on metal) - need to be slightly careful if using any old grease, as some of them will actually lubricate the post and cause it to slip.

If it's a composite frame then they do a specific product for it.

That Muc Off will do the job I’m sure but that’s not cheap!

As I said above, rightly or wrongly, a tin of multipurpose grease £7 or £8 for 500g from ECP or Screwfix/ Toolstation is what I use. It’s cheap, waterproof and will last. Lithium or marine, I just tend to buy whichever is cheap at the time. You only need a light smear on the seatpost, just enough to stop corrosion really.

That's the park anti seize compound I also use, as posted above.

What does the post manufacturer say? For example Rockshox droppers should go in with carbon assembly paste irrespective of the frame materials. This is so they don’t need too high a torque on the clamp, and reduces the risk of damage to the internals of the post.

There you go. Brand-X just say ‘grease’, so I’d go by what your frame is made of. Carbon frame, dry or carbon assembly paste. Metal frame, liberal amount of grease or anti-seize.
