I had to use one of the new electric Boris Bikes last week. I was generally not very impressed with how smart the electronics were. There was a significant "turbo lag" between sensing some torque being required and the motor joining in. Once up to speed it sort of couldn't decide whether to join in or not.

Are all electric bikes like this?

Has anyone else had a go on one yet?

they are limited to 25kph under assist, so if you are hovering around that speed the motor will cut in and out and its not the nicest ride.

best way to use all the electric ones in town is just to spin your legs and use the motor to its max at under 25kph.

I tried one from West Midlands Cycle Hire. I am guessing broadly similar to a Boris Bike. I would describe it as functional rather than enjoyable.
