I’m sorting out my old mountain bike and it needs new tyres.

Currently has Panaracer cinders and I’d like something similar in 26 * 1.95 size.

I’m mainly a leisure rider with bridle path/canal path and some road usage mostly, but would like to have some ability in mud for the odd occasion off-road.

I don’t really want to spend £40 a tyre either…

Is there an obvious go to tyre?

Thanks

Rico

I'm a big fan of Panaracer Fire XC Pro - very light, excellent grip on the shoulders in particular and not expensive. They roll very well on asphalt but are excellent on XC as well.

The only weakness I've found is the sidewalls are quite easily damaged on gnarly stuff.

A great tyre, but maybe a little too biased towards off road for OP use?

I'd go for something with more of a central ridge if mostly on bridleways or road.

Also maybe worth considering different tyres front and back? I used to ride the Surrey hills with smart Sam on front and a land cruiser on back....
