Gravel Bike - On One Free Ranger?
Discussion
Just about to order this
https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/CBOOFRRIV1700/on-one...
to me it looks like good value.
Working and having lived in Sheffield there are a few colleagues and mates who have bought from Planet X in the past and have been impressed with the value for money and performance of various bikes.
They do 0% credit which I will take advantage of.
Any views from owners etc..?
Having read a few reviews the colour looks miles better in the flesh and I'm not keen on the other options.
Cheers

Cheers Siao, good to know.
No worries. Mine is essentially the titanium version of this (I think very similar geometries), but with the Force groupset, not the Rival. I do love the screws for the tank bag!One this that will definitely happen is that you will lose the bars endcaps, they are terrible. Mine fell off after a while.
The downside is I guess that being online only, you can't just go and test ride it. If it's any help, mine rides like a champ, but that's also down to personal preferences.

That's very nice.
Went to order it but my application for 36 months interest free credit was decline!!
I'm 57, been in my present job for over 21 years, home owner with no mortgage, small amount on CC but paid off each month, joint car loan with wife with £3k left to pay, £232 pcm and 1 car insurance paid monthly (£25 pcm).
Looks like I'll have to dip into savings

Well evidently I put the wrong bank account for the credit check according to my accountant wife so she did it in her name with the main account our salaries are paid into and also some other correct info I failed to get right and it was accepted
On it's way hopefully and here tomorrow.

It's a very good frame. The frame is (if i remember correctly) a Carbonda cfr696 which is a frameset used by a quite a few companies and rebranded as theirs (some of which are much more 'boutique' than On One.
You can get these down to pretty light weights if you chuck enough money at them. I have the same frame on my Tifossi Cavazzo and I am now down well below 8.5kgs for a size large complete with mud, pedals, bottle cages and Garmin.

Thanks for the positive feedback.
Ordered now so good to know they are well regarded.
Got the confirmation of the build spec and should be built next Monday, delivered Tuesday.
Slight delay as demand has ramped up to beat the end of September when the sale ends I think.

I’ve just grabbed a on one free ranger off eBay as an upgrade from a boardman CXR. So far I’ve put £100 into it to fix it up, cassette, chain, gear cable, fresh bar tape. Mine came with hunt wheels and tubeless tyres so it’s slightly better spec than from Planet X.
So far I’m loving it, it’s certainly a quick bike and a decent upgrade on the CXR, which was also an excellent bike for the money.

I just had a look, in their website they list CXR as cyclocross, the gravel/adventure ones are ADV. I do wonder what is the difference. So far I’m loving it, it’s certainly a quick bike and a decent upgrade on the CXR, which was also an excellent bike for the money.

The Planet X I got came with tubeless ready wheels, so I did just that and don't regret it. The wheels are definitely not Hunt, they have cheaper Fulcrums.

Excellent.
Reviews all say wheels would be the best upgrade but I'll be happy as it comes out the box.
Planet X do offer carbon wheels for another £500 but couldn't justify that.
I find it weird to use carbon wheels for gravel/off road. Yesterday I found a big dent on my rear rim, god knows how long I have been riding with it; with a carbon wheel, it would have been broken.Reviews all say wheels would be the best upgrade but I'll be happy as it comes out the box.

Cyclocross is a off road race event with certain regs like max tyre size of 33c. So cyclocross bikes are racy gravel bikes that meet those regs. My old cxr would take a 38c tyre but it had no where near the clearance the free ranger has.The Planet X I got came with tubeless ready wheels, so I did just that and don't regret it.
