I was recently given a neglected Gazelle Primeur which I would like to return to the road. I'm fine with cars but I know very little about bikes, so far I've freed off the drums brakes and replaced the gear selector and outer cable, however I'm not sure the hub end is how it should be. I have a large white plastic part that slips on the hub nut, (this can be easily removed) from looking at other Primeurs online they do not seem to have this. If you pull the chain it feels like it's changing gear but as there is currently no crank I cannot check this. When I got the bike the black plastic bit was tie-wrapped all the way to the right in the picture below. It feels like at the moment I'm not getting enough travel due to the black plastic bit hitting the bracket when pulled. As you can see the metal threaded rod attached to the chain is all ready as far as it can go into the black plastic bit. Is this the correct setup or am I doing something wrong?

Also I need a crankset, the bolts that hold the cranks on, pedals and front shoes, does anyone know where the best place to get these from is? I tried my local Halfrauds but they couldn't help.

I'll hold my hands up and say I've no knowledge of this bike or its design, however I've found the following on a google search which may help. First thing is the plastic part which looks more like packing for transport rather than something to keep:

I have refurbed a couple of these. Check out https://hollandbikeshop.com/en-gb/branded-bicycle-...

That white plug looks like an Axle Nut Cap, but I don't think it should be located on the gear-side of the axle.

If you know what make of gearset you have (e.g. Sturmey Archer, etc.) you can probably acquire the appropriate parts:

Looking at the condition of your gear indicator chain, you might need to clean up the internals in the hub gear.

Good luck - they really are great bikes!
