I use a child trailer with my bike (or did, until the bike got pinched last week), and we started out with a car seat in the trailer for comfort, but now they are a bit older (14 months) and sneaking up on the top of the size limit for the seat, we tried it without, but even with the harness fitted as well as it can be, she slumps down.

I've found outrageously expensive (~£80) inserts that would solve the problem, but I'm wondering if anyone has any less expensive options? I'm wondering perhaps a few cushions / padding from a car seat insert?

With my bike stolen I'm now struggling to find a replacement bike that doesn't require me buying a costly extra axle to allow me to continue using the same trailer, but I'll save that problem for another day.

Go for a Wee-ride/Macride/Kids Ride Shotgun style top tube mounted seat if at all possible.

Will fit nearly any bike (fine on carbon!) and is a much, much nicer riding experience, for both you and your passenger. Encourages them to sit properly, and join in!

Much nicer than sitting 50cm off the ground having all the dirt off the back tyre fired into their face.

Great intro to the dynamics and 'feel' of riding too if your hoping that jnr will move onto riding their own bike.

So I did try that, converted a cargo bike to electric

My difficulty there was that you then need to package the child up for the weather, where a trailer protects them from all that - imagine a nursery run where you finish up outside the nursery front door trying to remove an all in one waterproof or similar - in the rain of course smile

Ah ok, fair enough - cargo bike looks great!

My suggestion would be preferable when riding for 'sport' or for the fun of it, however I can see how on the back or zipped up in a trailer makes more sense for transport/commuting.
