Any recommendations for 24 inch wheeled kids bikes? Eldest is currently riding a 18inch frome cudley which he seems to have outgrown annoyingly quickly!

Bought my lad a frog 24”. Seems pretty robust and up to the abuse kids routinely dish out

Price unsurprisingly has gone up quite a bit in the last 18 months

Islabikes are the usual answer, Frog are a decent alternative or woom who also make kids-specific geometry bikes.

None of these are cheap but they all hold their value and are easy to sell when they become too small.

Frog bike again.
Robust, relatively light and can take a fair bit of abuse.
I got a kick stand put on my lads as well as just letting it down seemed to be the easiest way to leave it when dismounting.
Hold their value surprisingly well so if you sell after buying you should recoup a fair bit of the initial outlay.

Oh, and they come in some nice bright colours.

One of mine has a hard tail Commencal meta 24, beautiful bit of kit and still 11kgs.
The other a 24" Cannondale lefty, because he prefers road riding, again exceptionally light with a few changes to the components.

Previously both had Isla bikes as they grew up which they both loved.

My stock repsonse used to be Islabikes. However, I saw these Woom bikes in Cyclesense near York. Cheaper and lighter than Islabikes, for a 16" anyway!

https://woom.com/en_INT

Worth a look at I think, they're failry new to the UK and according to Cyclesense there's only two suppliers in the UK!

I got one of these recently from Decathlon for my ten year old, she loves it

BTWIN ROCKRIDER ST 900

24" wheels, 12.3KG, Aluminium frame, thumb shifter, no stupid front derailleur to confuse the little ones.

Decent price: £299

My lad is currently on a 16” early rider seeker, which has been absolutely fantastic. The company are incredible too with their customer service. I would have no qualms in recommending their bikes, the only thing is their 20” and above bikes are properly pricey!

Frog/Isla etc always come highly recommended, but they don’t do anything that resembles a mountain bike under 24” wheel (I realise that’s what your looking for though)

I’ve got my eyes on orbea for the next bike, with a 20” wheel.

Unless I can get him to jump from a 16 to a 24, but that seems a little unlikely!

Both my kids have frogs, my son is on his third as unfortunately I can't make him stop growing, even though he is on a scottish diet. Great bikes

I got my 6 year old an Orbea MX24, he loves it. It’s a well built bike with a nice thumb shifter. Would recommend.

Check out this bike-club-cum-swap-shop

I haven’t used as so far I’ve bought new and then the hand me down is passed to youngest and then sold to friend. But the scheme looked quite good

Last bike we bought was a smaller one of these from winstanley bikes for £279 - prices vary a lot across retailers. These bikes are very lightweight, quality seems good, though I needed to tighten it up here and there a tad

Can I ask how tall he is? If I can skip the 20 inch bikes for my lad I’d be very happy about it!

I bought a Cuda Trace and our 8 year old is really happy on it. Nice and light, no heavy suspension forks, just a few gears and good geometry. Suspension forks on kids bikes add weight where you don’t want it and aren’t effective. Half the price of a Frog or Isla and good quality, under 10kgs too

Ours had Ridgebacks, which were cost-effective and tough.

My lad went onto a Hoy at that point as we didn’t think it was worth the premium for an Islabike or Frog. It was great for the money and got a good resale.

He’d had Islabikes up to that point but they started getting pretty pricey at 24in and above. He’s now on a Trek 27.5 mtb, aged 13.

Giant ARX is worth a look too, alloy frame and fork, 1x8spd.

We recently moved on my lad’s ARX20 as he had outgrown it at around 130cm tall, he is ready for a 24” wheel mtb now but already has 3 bikes (park bmx, race bmx and road bike) so I’m holding off for a while hehe

130cm and over seems to be the range for 24” wheels.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll have a look at all of them.
Any thoughts on either the Scott roxter 24 or cannondale cujo 24? Both around the £450 mark.
Not after anything with suspension, want it to be light weight and nice to ride. He loves cycling and really looks after his bikes, his current one is 18 months old and looks brand new still. Resale at this stage isn't a massive concern as his bikes are all being saved for his younger brother.

My daughter has a Merida Matts 24. My son has an Orbea MX20. IMO the Matts is a much nicer bike.

We’ve also had Islabikes which were well designed and light. Isla have great resale which would push me towards them.
