Out yesterday and rear shifter cable snapped leaving me in 11 cog for the 14 miles home (big leg day LOL). When i got home i pulled the cable out at the rear but couldn't find the thick end - and i'm guessing it popped out on the ride or when i peeled back the hood.

I've replaced the cable just but the shifter won't shift - both levers move but there is no clicking sound and when I tensioning the cable i can feel no tightening/loosening.

Tried looking for videos but can't see a fix. Could the end be jamming the mechanism even though the shifters move?

It's under warranty but they want me to post it back to them etc so looking for advice first.

Help.

NVM it was me being a little thick.

firstly the end of the cable was still in the mech housing but underneath a blanking cover so i couldn't see it. when i took it off and rethreaded the cable it still wasn't catching. then i realised the mechanism was still in the furthest position around the shifter housing and when i threaded the cable through i wasn't actually engaging the end in the housing. i had to shift the shifter all the way down through the gears to it's starting position so i could thread the cable through the housing.

schoolboy error but if you don't know you don't know. Interesting of the 4 or 5 videos i watched, NONE explained this bit.

I had the same recently. Its seems once it starts snapping gear cables it's the beginning of the end.

Had no issues with mine for 7 maybe more years (~15000 miles I reckon), then did two gear cables in 6 months, then I'm guessing some debris got into the mechanism and it got to a point where it just wouldn't shift up. This seems to be fairly well documented. I did strip it, but mine was too far gone. And ended up having to pay £110 for a replacement shifter frown.

Hope yours has more life in it!

What timing - did the same on my 105 groupset. Got a sweat on taking the blanking panel off, never had this issue on older. Groupsets
