Anyone else seeing signs of the market slowing or possibly downturning?

Granted there’s still heehaw stock of a hell of a lot of stuff, but I’m increasingly seeing sponsored posts on social media for clearance sales from bike shops.

At the same time, the used wares on Facebook marketplace appear to be softening price wise.

I’m also always fascinated by (expensive) bikes being sold after little to no use, cost of living biting and people realising expensive follies they’re not remotely using have to be cashed in.

Some stuff on eBay is still going for strong money, but there's also people asking silly money for 5+ year old bikes which have been on eBay for months as they'll never sell at the price being asked.

Conversely, there's a few eBay bargains appearing. I picked up a 2020 Giant Revolt Advanced last week, hardly used and cost me £2k less than the original sale price.

If that’s the one that sold at a bit over £1200: WOW!

Mega spec for that kind of money!

That's the one. Also got a pair of almost new GP5000s chucked in when I collected.

2023 stock coming in

Also a lot of higher end bikes being moved on could be ex-cyclescheme bikes being sold, albeit technically against the rules but I kinda think HMRC are busy with other things to check… if you’ve got 40% off rrp, you can take a hit on second hand prices

I’ve just plucked of eBay two bikes. One a hardly used (<60 miles) Whyte 905 for less than 50% of retail, other a boardman hard tail for 50% of retail from a chap who’d had it c. 6 months and used once.

Been looking for ages and wasn’t prepared to pay retail now my wife and I can start enjoying the local trails

i see some people asking stupid money for second hand bikes. they just won’t sell. i actually reckon over 50% of the bikes as massively overpriced and given the c2w discount i’ve no idea why you would buy an downsize second hander.

the below was a 3k bike 3 years ago pre covid

Nobody is going to spend £5k on a 7 years old Dogma F8 though, it’s still a £3k bike, he’s just asking way too much

it’s a 2k bike now.

2k as a 40% tax payer + NI gives a £4600 bike through C2W and interest free for 12 months.

so a 7 year old dogma or a brand new Aeroad Etap.

It still seems like a mixed bag. The prices of some ‘nearly new’ bikes seems astronomical but some more retro stuff is definitely lowering in price - probably as people go back to work and lose interest.

There are still sensible prices to be had, though. I recently bought a poorly advertised 2008 Bianchi 928 T-cube for 95 gbp.

You can advertise at high prices, doesn't mean there's buyers.

I've got a few months old Kingdom ti frame, I've tried selling it for less than half price.

People still wanted MORE off.

I appreciate its quite niche but I was surprised at the low balling. I'm rebuilding it back up this weekend.

I imagine this winter will see alot of people selling their kit. First unreasonable prices then come Jan it'll be open season.

That 7k 1yr old ebike? I imagine 3k with still no bites. After all who will be able to spend 3k in a recession without 0% to assist?

Black Friday deals are landing.

Maybe it’s just me but I don’t remember them really existing over the last 2 years? Certainly not £2k+ off various brand new Specializeds etc.

Quite a lot of sales this year on all sorts of bikes and gear, very different to the last couple of years.

People asking high prices on Pinkbike for bikes but very little selling and many seem to be hanging around a long time.

Anecdotal but 2021 Saracen carbon DH bike on Pinkbike (not mine). Lovely machine and they’re asking £3.5k for it. Mid summer, a couple of years ago probably have sold easily, but now a niche bike, heading into winter when people are acutely aware that their finances might not be so healthy in the next 6 months. It’s been on there for weeks and I’d put money on it not selling at all.
