My chain broke last week on my hybrid so I just bought a next day delivery replacement from Amazon as a quick fix as I really needed the transport.

Still needs adjusting as it pretty awful at the moment when changing gear.

But is it worth getting something better before adjusting? or is that a serviceable chain?

How stretched was your chain when it went. If it was at 1.0 then chances are its done the cassette already so putting a new chain on will not work. You'd need a new cassette too. Assuming the cassette isn't foobar did you size the new chain correctly?

AFAIK the SRAM chain should be compatible with Shimano/Campag as long as it's the same speed (number of gears).

If the rest of the groupset was worn then a new chain will show it.

It is only a 2 yr old bike so this is the first chain replacement.

I know nothing about chain sets so I will get a bike shop to do the adjustment.

Just wondering if it is worth getting a better chain before they do it.

Just give it to them to sort. If the chain is stretched too much, you will need a cassette for sure, if it’s really bad you would need to change the front chain ring too.

Get a chain checker and use it regularly and change your chain early.

You won’t then have to replace your cassette so often.

Bike shop will help you with it all.

Just replaced two 11 speed SRAM chains on my gravel bikes, both bikes about a year old. Both chains were at 0.75 stretch after 1000 miles. Cassettes are both ok. From what I've read if you monitor chain stretch and replace at 0.5 to 0.75 you can get 3 chains per cassette. It makes sense as the chains are £20 a go but the 11 speed cassettes are more like £80, if you can get them.

I bought a KMC chain seems OK.

My 10 speed MTB had suffered from being mostly ridden in top gear, I was able to buy a single smallest sprocket to fit the cassette.

KMC or Sram are good choices for 10 spd
