So, had my c2w voucher processed. Found a bike I wanted. Identified instock item with an online retailer. I also made contact with my LBS. They could supply the bike with a 2 week lead time, due to wait for the forks to be supplied for the build kit. Not a problem, I'd for go a 2 week wait to support my LBS. All they asked was for the LOC number to confirm my intention to purchase the bike, in light that I wasn't going to put down a deposit.

We are now 7 weeks down the road and there is no sight of the bike (£5k purchase price). The bike shop also processed the LOC, which leaves me in a bit of a quandary, as I am now paying for goods I have not been supplied. It is annoying as I specifically had a conversation about supply chain issues, and they phoned the supplier to confirm a 2 week lead prior to making the order.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to a reasonable way forward? As I don't want to approach this like a total nob, but as time goes on I'm getting more and more annoyed.

Bikes are a nightmare at the moment so whilst I understand it’s annoying OP, you’re unlikely to get a better result anywhere else, especially if you’re after a specific bike.

ETA: If you are buying a Giant bike, I’ve found their UK support team to be helpful in advising around delivery of parts etc. and you can contact them directly via info@giant-bicycles.co.uk.

I do appreciate supply chains are a pig and the cycle industry is massively affected. Which is why I identified an instock product online, but was happy to go with the LBS as I was assured it was only going to be a 2 week wait. (Unfortunately not Giant, but SantaCruz)

Not sure how true it is now however I spoke with a big SC dealer late last year and they said almost everything from SC was on back order with basically zero stock anywhere, and to be very suspicious of anything showing as immediately available.

I work for a bike shop, but we dont sell Santa Cruz so this one isnt ours. If you dont wish to proceed its easy for them to get the voucher reinstated, I have to deal with this every other day.

Ultimately since youve had no goods if you wanted to totally cancel the voucher that should be possible through the voucher provider once the cert is reinstated. Youd typically start paying the voucher off as soon as its issued regardless of if youve spent it or not anyway.

From my experience, you start repaying straight away, as soon as the voucher is issued, whether the voucher has been claimed or not.

Same in my case but different schemes etcetera. Got agreed price in April, applied for voucher, placed an order with ribble for June delivery and gave them voucher code.

Got delayed and delayed so recalled the voucher and used online with a bike in stock. Started paying in April even though didn't see the bike until July.

I've encountered plenty of supply issues with LBS and why i stuggle to rely on them. Indeed any small company gets rolled over for supply by the big boys, this was my issue with Ribble.

Sounds like no-one actually had a bike to supply. If it is a new bike why did the online retailer need parts for it or is it a custom build?

On my second bike through an alternate scheme and each time I have seen the bike and placed a deposit at the store on CC to hold it. The deposit was refunded when I provided the voucher and picked up the bikes..

Same thing happened to me. Months of waiting. Ended up getting a different bike that was slightly cheaper. Then just topped up the difference with accessories. Not ideal but it's all they could get. Suppose the original bike would of finally come into stock but was getting annoyed with the monthly payments and having no steed!

When I bought a bike through the C2W scheme, I had 1 or 2 payments left before I received the bike. And that wasn't a top end bike. So a couple payments paid isn't too bad.
When buying the bike I had £50 left from the voucher and I bought a helmet but had to put £10 as the helmet cost £60. The bike shop wasn't going to send the helmet until I got the bike, I'd to convince them I wasn't going to back out of the deal! Having waited 8 months at that point, I managed to convince them I wasn't going to go elsewhere with my voucher.
