I’m looking to sell my carbon road bike on eBay, had it on Facebook marketplace for a few weeks - no takers.

I’m using buy it now /offers only would obviously prefer collection but realistically i’m going to need to post it.

Any tips for not getting scammed? It’s £1k+.

I've sold plenty of things cash on collection. Why can't you do that?

Like I said, realistically I’m going to need to post it. I live in Devon.

Whilst you narrow down the market, that's about the size of it to be 100% safe yes

Helps if you live in a big population area where plenty of people can get to you of course.

I agree that collection only is safest.

While you're not in a "convenient" location, if it were something I wanted and priced well, my attitude would be "sod it, it's a tank of fuel and a day out, I'll go get it".

So if you're willing to take enough of a hit on price to make that worth someone's time, you may still be ok.

Ebay seem to have a £1 fees offer on at present that ends tonight, so I'd get it listed, 30 day listing under buy it now, accepting offers, and see what comes of it.

I think I agree. removed the postage option - see what happens. Not in a huge rush to see it go - it’s been a good friend.

List it on Pinkbike. You'll need to register to see the buy/sell section, but more likely to attract genuine buyers. However, it will still be cash on collection.

The last two road carbon bikes I brought , both were cash on collection that I drove to to collect ,
, one was an 3 hr return trip the other was an 8hr return trip .
I didnt actually pay cash both sellers were actually happier with BASC transfer by phone while i was there .

I am really happy with both purchases and was well worth the fuel costs and time " for me " to get some great bikes at good prices . I wouldnt want a bike posted to me . IMO to many complications for both parties .Plus I would always want to see it first , Both of these were advertised on FB though , I found E bay people seemed to want to much money for bikes that IMO were over priced .

Good luck with your sale
