In need of some beginners help here guys!

At the start of lockdown I picked up an old Voodoo Limba gravel bike - the old Voodoo ie: pre halfords.

This bike basically: https://www.thebikelist.co.uk/voodoo/limba-2010

Anyway i've ridden for the last two years, on and off a trainer & the tyres are now due a refresh.

It's currently got Alexrims R390 Pro wheels fitted and are marked with a sticker that says 622x14

https://thecycleclinic.co.uk/products/alex-r390pro...

And tyres are currently:

Schwalbe Rapid Robs - the markings on the tyre show 35-622 28x1.35

Can some kind soul point me in the direction of a suitable tyre that'll fit?! and hopefully also explain what I should be looking at in terms of sizes as i'm lost!

I still ride on gravel / tow paths / parland etc so am not looking for complete slicks.

Wheel size is confusing. Blame the French. They invented it. 622, 700c 29er, 28 inch mean the same thing. The standard road bike size wheel.

The 622-14 means the internal width of the rim is 14mm. Narrow by todays standards but perfectly fine.

Buy the same tyres as you've already got if you like them. Somebody will be along hopefully with some similar recommendations.

As above, just work out what the width of your wheels are and then you Google the tyre widths you can fit. But 622 is the metric version of 700c wheels, so start with that filter on your search.
And work out what width tyre your bike can clear. Older bike tolerances are much tighter than more recent models

Not quite, 622 is the rim seat diameter, 700 is the tyre diameter, they are both metric.

Thanks for the info, so i'm looking on the regular websites... chain reaction & wiggle.

CR seem to only have a few options available at 1.35" - and one of those is a full slick and the other a CX mud / full offroad type thing. Leaving this as the only option? and even this appears to be a very chunky pattern.

Is the 1.35" important (this sounds like a really stupid question...) as there is no way to filter to that size on Wiggle.

Surely my options aren't this limited?!

Help!

Search for 35mm tyres. Nobody uses inches until over 50mm.

I run Schwalbe G-Ones on my single-speed roadie and they aren't all that chunky at all. The tread is more like a butch table-tennis bat than CX knobblies.

That said, I'm running 32mm rather than 40mm, but the profile won't be all that different.

No the 1.35” is not that important. That is the width of the tyre measured side to side. The important thing will be to not get a tyre that is too wide (“fat”) to fit in your frame. Take a look at the bike and the clearance between the current tyres and the frame/forks to get an idea. But I would expect you could go much larger even up to 2” or thereabouts.

Yes but a note of caution, 35mm tyre is wide for 14mm section rim I would say you maximum to be safe would be a 28mm

Might help you choose some tyres - theres a few tables and good explanations of wheel/tyre sizes
