Here's my current bike, which I like very much.
https://archive.trekbikes.com/us/en/2014/Trek/alla...

It's used for relatively short trips for food shopping (I have a pair of Ortlieb roller style panniers), as well as the occasional longer ride (10-15 miles max) for a picnic or somesuch.

I have recently moved to Stanmore in NW London and have to commute to White City which currently involves going all the way into central London, and then back out, all of which takes about an hour on the Tube, and costs £10 return.

Google Maps/Komoot suggest it is a ride of about 10 miles each way taking between 50 mins and 1hr 10 depending on the route taken.

I'm looking for an ebike on which will be comfortable to ride in normal clothes, have a relatively upright riding position as per my Trek, mostly for improved visibility and comfort.

I have access to £1000 CTW and would like to keep the cost down if at all possible.

Many thanks.

Can you charge at work?
How secure will it be?

There is a bike room, not sure about charging (though I can plug in a removable battery if course).

I have owned a Giant Fathom E+3 for five months and it is brilliant. It is perhaps a bit out of budget, but managed to get it for £2100 on CTW scheme. The financial limit for CTW schemes has been increased so it might be worth asking your employer if they can increase the £1000 limit.

I had a look at some cheaper options but the reliability on the electrics seems to be a sticking point. And if you intend commuting in all weathers then having something reliable will be important.

Mine does not have lugs for a rack, but p clips can be used if needed. I have fitted some more appropriate continental tyres for commuting too. I am older (48yo) but the riding position is comfortable and upright, over the hilly 26 mile commute I have daily. I had not cycled in anger for 25 years but now do the commute three times a week in relative comfort, but only if it is dry! One 26 mile commute uses just over half the battery.

Only 'self inflicted' issue I have had is the electric system stopped working one morning, meaning I cycled unassisted. This was still fine.... I had knocked the wheel sensor out whilst changing the tyres.....

Giant do a Roam E+ which looks a similar spec to mine but more road orientated, so that might be worth a shot.....and there appears to be stock which is another factor.....

Have you considered converting your existing bike if you like it? I am aware of Swytch conversions, but I guess there are more conversion options if that's something you want to explore. I'm guessing a few on here will have converted existing bikes (and made sure they were working at *ahem* 'maximum efficiency')

At that budget check out the ezego commute. If you had cash rather than c2w then you have more options.

For example my 2nd had £600 gtech could do your commute, the battery is a tiny clip off bottle you can charge in work and it’s low value, less likely to get stolen. That’s why I bought it to run errands and leave locked up rather than using my best bike.

I've converted my existing 29er with a front wheel hub motor, it's around £600 and covers my commute (there and back) easily, the range is ~25 miles if you don't run full assist.
