Not sure how to navigate through Bristol on a bike. It will be the last section of a 110 mile day so I'm likely to be tired and just want to get to the B&B.

Ignore the google maps usage, it just shows rough start and exact finish. Going North to south and it's likely to be early afternoon on a friday.

Advice please

For the northern section, you could use the following

The route through Iron Acton to Frampton Cotterell is either 'quiet roads' or closed to road vehicles and then just south of Westerleigh you pick up the Bristol/Bath Railways Path cycle route which despite the wiggling about towards the end according to Google Maps does take you straight into the centre next to Temple Meads. There are loads of 'cycle friendly' ways across the city itself to Ashton. I'm not so familar with South Bristol (there be dragons wink ) but I believe there may be a cycle route alongside the metrobus route to Long Ashton P&R , then through Long Ashton itself (not via the bypass) takes you most of the way there

Hi, this is my local area. If you just want to get there then I’d take the quiet roads between Thornbury and Shirehampton and then take the cycle path beside the M5 over the Avonmouth bridge, then a back roads route from Pill to Nailsea and Blackwell.
Not as interesting or pretty as through the city centre though.

I would be wary of the M5 path if it is windy.

FWIW my riding in the area (ignore the straight line from Long Ashton the actual route taken is the line below).

A38 into Bristol is a dual carriageway, so I was somewhat surprised when a whole group passed me!

Sorry I was writing this from North to South. Just do it in reverse!!!

This is the way I would go, it’s a bit longer but is a nicer route. First 10kms are fine, that road is poor quality and a bit narrow but it’s safe as cars can’t go that fast on it. Pretty much bang on that 10km point, take the cycle path from Hambrook, a mile or so after Winterbourne. It follows the ring road until Pomphery Hill, then splits, one way goes to Bath, the other to Bristol. It’s the old railway line. That’s a really nice traffic free route all the way into the centre of town. That’s about 20km of the whole route and its flat too

The city centre is pretty good and easy to ride through as traffic barely goes over 10mph thanks to the disaster that is Bristol City Council but Park Street is a bit steep. That’s pretty much the 30km marker on the map. Head through Clifton and over the suspension bridge just because, the view is epic and it’s fun, from here you could go through Ashton Court park and onto your original route or head for Beggar Bush Lane, through Failand and into West Town.

Alternatively your route SW out of the city looks reasonable and there are cycle lanes to keep you away from the dual carriageway sections of the A370.

Happy to bunk off work and rode with you if you want?!

damn you are giving me too many choices.

i like the idea of using the clifton bridge, like you say photo Op for my followers to bump up the donations. after spending a year living in sadly broke and cycle commuting to Abbeywood everyday it's about time i see some more of Bristol

This will be day 7 of my JOGLE on Fri 27th May (i like to plan ahead lol) but more than happy for company as my "mates" have cried off the adventure so i'm solo now.

The most obvious route as suggested would be picking up the bristol/bath railway path via the ring road path and then out through the centre via the festival way.

I’ve done a loop from north bristol following the coast and over the avonmouth bridge, it’s mostly traffic free but pretty grotty!

I'd be tempted to avoid the lower bit from Tytherington to Winterbourne - I use this as part of my driving commute, and there's too many people driving too fast around blind bends for my comfort. I tend to go a bit further across through Alveston / old down / Almondsbury where people seem to drive a bit more slowly...

Is it actually possible to ride anywhere in Bristol without being blocked or attacked by foaming at the mouth woke protesters.
