I have been taking my son up to the local pump and jump dirt track. I quite fancy a cheap bmx to join him on the track rather than stood on the side lines.

What size should I be looking at for an adult?

Might be better with a dirt jumper... Bigger 26 wheels and a better fit if you're an adult.

How tall are you?

I’m lucky to have many C&K Pump-tracks nearby (they’re also well into cars and drive on the track)!

In my 50’s I ride 20”, but i’d recommend a 24” Cruiser (race bike), ideal wheel size for pumptracks and dirt. 26” or 27’5 jumpbikes will be double/triple the price.

As for the meme above… totally !

Thanks, I am 5ft 7inch so not a giant.

We were up there the other day and there was a dad on a bmx having a great time.

Didn’t really want to spend much, maybe £450 max. Just to mess around on.

My lad races BMX, most adults who are at the track for a laugh or to join in with the young ones tearing around tend to be on 24” wheel Cruisers. They roll much better and look a bit more forgiving than the 20” ones. Frame sizes are done by name, at 170cm you’re on the cross over of Pro / Pro XL, so will probably want to test ride one of each.

Take a look at shops like Crucial, Source BMX and Winstanley BMX for new or sign up to some of the race bmx groups on FB for second hand.
