Hello all, I wonder if people could share the rear light they use? I have had a few cat eye ones but they don’t tend to last long in the rain and then end up being send back.

If it makes any difference, during the winter I ride with a saddle bag so will need to be seat post mounted.

Thanks in advance

Don't think you can beat these - mega bright, totally reliable and solidly made. Mine is on my bike permanently and used for every ride, in every weather. Must have done 10's of thousand Kms without issue

A friend of mine has one of these, he reckons he's had it 7-8 years and it's still going. I think I'm going to try one out too.

I have these and also think they’re great. Only issue has been grit getting into the threads and making the on/off process a bit annoying.

This newer version looks like it just has an on/off switch though?

I use a 50 lumen halfords one. Seat post rubber band type mount, has lasted a couple of years now.

I like to use lights that pulse, as a car driver in Central London I find them most visible and easy to judge where they are exactly, how fast the bikes going etc.

I have no idea why all you newbies think you need to have flashing lights on all the time.

(If you’re actually riding at night, then fair enough).

I use a pair of moon crescents, small, light, easy to charge, relarively cheap and having two on guards against one failing without realising whilst cycling. Tend to only have on at night/dark, or when on roads.

Not sure if they are the current model, but can usually pick up discounted if you are prepared to hunt around a little

Doesn’t really answer my question, but for reference it would be for riding in the night/evenings.

On a side note, I suppose a day time running light is a waste of time……. No other road user has them

Round my way the two most popular forms of bicycle lighting are,
  • None (and of course no reflector either), or
  • Ridiculously bright (and probably flashing as well).
IMO any rear light at all should be sufficient. Getting a decent reflector is in many ways more important.

The key thing is that just because you can see the cars doesn't mean they can see you, especially if there is oncoming traffic with bright headlamps.

Garmin Varia radar light. Brilliant bit of kit that works seamlessly with my Garmin 530.

I use a Knog Blinder pretty much all the time (yes, including daytime) and a Moon Merak on my offside bar end at night.

I also use an Aldi/Lidl LED wrap around my offside ankle if I'm setting off in the dark, but generally wouldn't bother if it's just a case of getting home a bit late.

I did a quick comparison video of various lights I have/use here: https://youtu.be/8RzHuazQtYI

Lezyne Zecto Drive Max. Brilliant quality and performance after years of being caked in mud and used in all weathers.

Failing that, anything from Exposure. Never had a rear, but I use these for the front, and they are worth every penny.

These are a bargain. Really bright, good battery life and can be mounted on your seatpost or stays.

From a car driver.

Have rear lights on when riding your bike ALL the time - you're forever going under shady trees, under bridges etc and we only have to fleetingly miss you......

Personally, I'd prefer them flashing on/off (quickly).

Main wish would be for you sensible cyclists to persuade all others to show rear lights (......and stop racing along pavements...)

Yep, I NEVER ride without a rear light.

Garmin varia. Expensive but if ride on your own and have a cycle computer, then the radar element is extremely useful from a safety point if view.
