Interesting evening.

Two guys walked straight up to our garage and started to open the lock, my girlfriend spotted them (the kitchen window overlooks the garages) and asked them what they were doing. They gave a story about a mate telling them to get something from garage 16 (ours is garage 6), and they walked off. Clearly they went round the corner, then five minutes later they were back, and as I ran down the stairs they opened the combination lock (!), pulled up the door, grabbed my girlfriends bike and legged it with it. They shut the door and took the padlock with them, oddly.

Anyway, it's a fluoro yellow Zero AM:

Nasty business. And a lovely bike to lose like that. I know how angry I was about having a knackered old GT Avalanche stolen, and that was on it's last legs. SR Suntour coil fork, Alto/Alivio 3x8 gears, scruffy as owt and deliberately so because it was the commuting/errands beater. Lord only knows why it was taken unless the GT name fooled some dimwit into thinking it was more bike than it actually was. Disappeared from outside my son's work between him pulling the security shutters down and coming out to get on the bike. There one minute, gone the next, and the thieves in his case also took the lock with them, leaving only a handful of the armoured segments loose on the floor.

I sincerely hope it's recovered and you get it back. Despite it's lack of value I keep hoping (most likely in vain) that we'll get my crappy old GT back. I hate thievery with a passion, and bike thieves are among the worst of them. Losing that GT means that there's an extra car on the road now when I need anything from shops I'd previously have cycled to. On the back of your post, and because I've realised just how much my bikes mean to me, I've just reversed the car tight up to my (up and over) garage door as a bit of extra protection for them...

Have set up ebay alerts for the bike and the components and done a post on pink bike buy / sell.

Unlikely to help - didn't with the two I lost - but you never know.

Hope you get it back. Scumbags.

I live nor far from you. Some workies had their van emptied of tools in broad daylight a couple.of weeks ago by 4 hooded guys in a black Passat. Police responded promptly, car chase ensued and the tools were recovered from the abandoned car in Clock House.

They have some neck these thieves. Shame they didn't catch them but at least the gear was recovered.

It used to be. These days, it's a "£750K for a studio flat in a converted warehouse" dive.

Sadly the fence took the listing down before we could meet up with him, which I suspect means that he's sold it to someone.

It's always an awful feeling when someone steals your bike, it's happened to me a number of times over the years, but onwards and upwards - it'll be replaced with something better.

Pretty pointless I'm afraid to say,had bike stolen North London, saw it on gumtree, month later, phoned guy selling it told him,it was stolen, not to sell it,police would be in touch.
Got back onto police......he'd already 'sold it'!Had receipt saying he bought it from Hertfordshire, police couldn't/ wouldn't pursue lead, bearing in mind, the person selling my bike, was 'known' to the police, had several bikes for sale

Sadly the scumbags know this and will be back sniffing around after the insurance company pay out, a good time to upgrade garage secure and make sure the bikes are always locked together, don’t just trust the locks on the garage to keep them out, and if they get in, make it really difficult for them to get the bikes.

I've given notice on the (rented) garage, I have something else in mind for the bikes/car/etc in future which will have a dramatically higher level of security.

It's why I ride cheap bikes, as they often travel on my car roof im the rack, so if they were special, no doubt I would get spotted/followed and bike would be gone.

So whatever you have planned, make sure it involves the bikes not being seen too much as you arrive home.

When I lived in London my bike was right behind my pillow.

It'd go nowhere else.
