I'm quite desperately seeking some new commuter wheels. Budget £250-£300, 700c, SRAM 9SP, disc brake and quick release. The bike is a 2014 Boardman hybrid.

Can anyone recommend some, please that are in stock anywhere?

Not much choice in stock anywhere, but SJS Cycles have a Shimano wheelset available and under budget.

These ones? They're centre lock for disc brakes, I need 6 bolt...

I have a set of those wheels, they are brilliant for the money.

They do adaptors as well: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/brakes/a2z-center-lock...

I replaced the rotors on mine with these: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/brakes/shimano-slx-m66...

CycleStore list the Mavic Aksium 6 bolt in stock for £220 - listed that it includes the QR adapters for the hubs.

I presume a 9 speed cassette fits on a 10/11 speed hub with just a spacer - never had a 9 speed bike!

Correct a spacer will be required.

12mm thru axle and not quick release, I don't think they can be converted.

'Front 12mm / Rear 12 x 142mm' would suggest thru-axle rather than 9mm QR.

I have Aksiums on my Boardman Hybrid - night and day compared to the no name/no brand wheels it came with. If you can get them I’d go with those.

Also if you are an eBayer out the old ones up for sale, I got ridiculous money for mine even though I was open about the knackered condition of them.

Thanks guys. The Shimano ones will be £220 when I’ve included the disc adaptors, same price as the Askiums. Both sets weigh about the same.
Can’t decide between the two!

I would make sure that the Mavic's are 100% available, SJS only list what is in stock and ready to go, a lot of other retailers tend to say it is in stock when they don't.

Mavic have been unavailable for a while as they went bust, spares can hard to get as well, Shimano spates are a lot easier to find.

I really like mine.

All Terrain are listing one set of Aksium Discs left for £195 but doesn't say if they are CL or 6 bolt.

12mm thru axle so not suitable.

Here is another option: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/wheelswheelsets/700c-6...

Bit more expensive but hand built

What’s the benefit of hand built wheels?

Much better than factory wheels, as hand built and trued and not built on a machine, they would be my choice DT Swiss rims will be a nice as well, they will be lighter than the Mavic's and Shimano's
