Firstly, I'm new to building/servicing bikes, so please bare with me.....

I've just taken delivery of these new wheels:

https://www.certini.co.uk/components/wheels-spares...

But they don't have an 'axle'? Just the bearings with a circa 10mm diameter inner hole?

I've taken the old 'axle' off of my previous wheel with a 13mm and 17mm spanner, but it doesn't fit the new wheel properly. As in, the tapered nut doesn't fully seat within the new bearings.

How do I ascertain what I need, and what to search for?

Can you take a picture of both wheels from the end so we can see the 10m hole you describe? Sounds like you might just be needing the right size skewers.

seems the wheels can come with either QR or thru axle:

Front Hub: Roval AFD1, Centerlock, sealed cartridge bearings, QR or 12mm thru-axle end cap
Rear Hub: Roval AFD2, Centerlock, sealed cartridge bearings, DT Swiss 350 internals, 11-speed, QR or 142x12mm thru-axle end cap

I'm guessing from the OP description they are 12mm thru and not compatible with their bike (QR at a guess).

send em back OP and get some with QR axle.

However £650 on something that isn't questioned during the purchase is madness from both sides - even though the image kinda looks like QR and you could understand the OP not asking.

Sounds like you're looking at the wheels configured in the the thru-axle configuration and I'm assuming you're after a standard QR setup. You should have received a bag of spare bits with the wheels. Have a look in there and there should be some end caps that you just push in to the axle to convert them to QR.

According to this review they should come with 2 different end caps:

They come with 12mm thru-axle end caps, plus quick-release end caps and skewers, and the rims are lined with tubeless tape, with valves supplied.

Thanks for the replies.

The end caps result in the front wheel being too wide for the forks (not tried the rear yet).

The forks are 100mm wide, so I assume if I get 100mm x 12mm thru axle the front should fit fine?

There aren't differing widths for forks. If you've ended up with a hub that's too wide for the forks then you've done something wrong somewhere.

No. You can't use thru axles if your frame/forks are designed for QR.

There's something that doesn't look right here. It looks like you're using a centerlock adapter, but the bolts aren't sitting flush in the outer silver ring and the black lockring is then sitting against the bolts.

Looks like he has bolted the adapter in and then used the centre lock as well. OP i think looking at that pic of the brake disc adapter it would probably be best to take to your LBS to get them to guide you.

Agreed, that is not correct, the lockring should fit flush to the disc.

Are they the right bolts?

IIRC the bolts should be tightened first then the silver washer ring placed over the top. the bolt heads should fit inside the holes in the silver washer. The washer shouldn't be under the bolt heads.

It does appear that I may have mis-read the instructions regarding the rotor adapter, now sorted!

Back to the initial issue, looks like I need one of these: https://www.halowheels.com/shop/spares/hub-spares/...

or maybe these?: https://www.wiggle.co.uk/prime-rd020-conversion-ki...

You shouldn't need to buy anything else, the wheelset comes with QR endcaps. You don't need an axle through the hub, you just need to fit the correct endcaps and quick release.

You may encounter issue with clearance between the centrelock cap and the fork. You might need an internal cap which uses a cassette tool rather than the external one which uses a bottom bracket tool.

You don't need anything new. You already have an adapter kit. It's the end caps that came with the wheels.

As I said further up, if you've tried putting the end caps in and the wheel doesn't fit then you've done something wrong. Buying different adapters/end caps is not the answer.

^^^This 100% no extra parts required, doubt they will fit anyway

You simply need to find the right combination of those 4 to make the front wheel 100mm and the rear 142. I suspect one silver capped one on each end, with the two longer ones on the rear wheel. It will probably also matter which side you put each cap; e.g. you can make the front 100mm with two caps, but if you put them on the wrong side, the brake disc will not line up with the caliper..

Oh, and you probably need to remove the brake disc to fit the end caps..

Are there not any instructions? Worst case there's a contact us on the roval website.. might also be worth asking a competent mechanic / bike shop. I'm still worried about your brake discs, generally centrelock adapters do not require any bolts smile
