Hope this forum can help me with some advice please on the topic of action cameras? My adult son is big into his Trail/Mountain riding and has expressed an interest for a Go pro camera with stabilisation to record his epic rides (typically through forests or along rough trails in the Lake District etc)

Sadly Santas budget doesn't quite cover the cost of a Go pro 8, 9 or 10 so i am wondering if there are any alternatives that might work?

I have come across this which says it has software stabilisation but I have no idea if thats suitable for all the bouncing and bumps of trail riding?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0881FLJ1Q/ref...

I would like to get him something suitable, but the budget is only around £150.00 so am I being optimistic or is there a good Go pro alternative that will work within that budget?

Thanks in anticipation.

I’ve been using a ghost x for 3-4 years. Reviews are mixed but I’ve found it to be a good camera. Up to 5 hour standard battery and the long range up to 8 is only £25 now. I fix mine to a clamp bracket on the handlebars. You set up through the app. There’s no viewer but can be wifi linked to your phone on their app.
It comes with some 3m adapters so can be helmet mounted. I use mine in car mode so continuing 10 minute records which can or not over ride the oldest clips held on the mini card.

Doesn’t look like that’ll be back in stock any time soon.

I have the older Akaso I use as a bar camera out on the road and for mucking about making YouTube videos. I don’t think it has image stabilisation and when used on my MTB via handlebar mount I find the constant weaving in the picture makes me want to puke.

Standard battery life was a bit short at only 1hr, better capacity spares give more like an hour and 45mins.

Santa may need to join the Facebook GoPro UK group and buy a nearly new or boxed one from us nerds who upgrade when a new model comes out.

Those Akaso ones are a decent price on Aliexpress and they look pretty good. I've found that delivery off there has always been quicker than expected.

I have a Thieye T5, I think it's about 3 or 4 years old now, but it has been spot on. Only issue on a bike was on trails with trees covering the light, the quality dropped a lot. I bought it for surfing and as something the kids would struggle to destroy and it's been absolutely fine for that. Seems that they just make dashcams now. It was only about £60 or £70, so you don't need to pay a fortune for an action camera.
