Hi all.

I am currently cycling with DHB Trinity Tri shores with Look Cleo pedals.

I am new to road bikes, cycling shoes and clip ins.

I am finding that after a ride the outside of my feet on the side is sore.

I originally bought the bike and shoes to do a try a tri. There is no way I can run after cycling in them.

Any suggestions on what I am going wrong or potentially wider shoes.

How are your cleats set up? I once watched a video about bike fits and he spoke about cleat position causing quite a lot of issues, he recommended starting as far back as the cleats go and gradually moving them forward until you find the optimal position. Worked for me anyway and stopped me getting pain in my knee, maybe worth a try for you.

Sounds more like the shoe being to narrow. You'd have to have cleat pretty wonky to get side of foot sore. Bottom of the foot pain / numbness is more normal.

Post a pic of it?

I have the same shoes, they are fairly slim so that my be an issue.

I have recently bought a nice pair of road shoes and the difference is massive, I bought Lake they seem to allow for wider feet.

I tried on a pair of Lake shoes when I went for a bike fit, they were like slippers

Put my own ones back on and realised how awful they were

I have a pair of Lakes now

Yeah they are amazing, just over double the money than the dhb trintiys but they are at least twice as good.

+1 for Lake. I put up with narrow cycling shoes for years, I used to buy one or two sizes too big, partly to get an extra pair of socks in, partly because the "right" size always felt tight across the widest part of my foot. Then when my last pair needed replacing I did some research on wide fit cycling shoes, Lake make wide fit ones that are 9-10 mm wider than some brands.

Get a fit or play roulette until you find the right pair

Also as a new cyclist you may find in a year you wanted something completely different as you adjust and get better and understand what a road shoe will provide for you.

I ended up buy some S works 7 shoes which I love to bits but initially they felt rock solid, ridiculously so. I love them now though, loads of room. plenty of ventilation or warm enough for autumn with toe covers. dual boa to adjust the pressure over the top of the foot

They were too stiff for my wife as a new cyclist, think she went with the Specialized Torch. I started out on the Torch as well but they feel so crap now.

Thanks all.

Difficulty is I do not have a local bike shop that carries a lot of stock so trying on is not possible.

Very very few do as they have to buy the stock so costs a lot to have all the styles in all the sizes.

My lbs told me use Chain reaction as they do and have a 365 day no quibble returns policy.
