Just planning a trip from Passau in Germany to Budapest on the Eurovelo 6, anyone on here done it?

Some sections appear to be one side of the Danube but after googling a bit several sections seem to be both sides. I would appreciate anyone who has done it sharing their route, perhaps flagging up where, if any, you think one side is better than the other? Is there an "official" route or is it just a case of following the river and going with the flow (see what I did there?).

TIA

Although I’ve not used the Eurovelo routes yet, I’ve been looking at them and joined the EuroVelo Discussion Group on Facebook. You may get a good response from there if that helps.

Many thanks. I didn't know there was one but I have just joined.

I googled a bit after that post and it does appear that both sides are the official route on the bits where there are two. And I played with Garmin popularity heat maps plotting a route and there does appear to a clear favourite on several sections.

I think you can follow the Danube all the way?

I've not done that one but have done some of the others. I find there is a big variance as you go along - I assume as different people contribute to the route - for instance at one point you can be bombing along a tarmac path and the next minute you are in need of a mountain bike. The signage can vary wildly too.

Generally they are good though and you have now got me looking at that route and wishing :-)
