Tubeless conversion - Fulcrum Racing 5 DB
Discussion
Hi,
Anyone experienced in this? I've bought the stans no tubes conversion kit and rim tape but am wondering whether the existing rim tape is good for tubeless already - it is glued in place it seems.
If it isn't can I just install in the stans rim tape over the top? I don't really want to rip it out in case I don't get on with tubless and want to go back to inner tubes (unlikely I know).
Cheers
Matt

Good point. I guess I dont want to butcher the old tape if I don't have to.
I have been trying to seat the tyre unsuccessfully (soapy water and a little sealent plus rocking the tyre).
The tyre went on pretty easily. I had read/watched videos that it was meant to be difficult so maybe these wheels just aren't compatible. They are 2017/2018 vintage of anyone knows.

Search on YouTube for syd and macky seating tubeless tyres. Helped me get one of mine on that I was struggling with.I have been trying to seat the tyre unsuccessfully (soapy water and a little sealent plus rocking the tyre).

It may or may not be of use to you…
IIRC, Fulcrum 5 DBs of a certain vintage, are only compatible with the Schwalbe tubeless system, this may or may not apply to your rims / tyres?
I think you might right. I've seen from 2018 ish they have a 2 way fit system but mine are older than that looking at the pics - 2016 ish. I bought them in 2019 as new old stock.IIRC, Fulcrum 5 DBs of a certain vintage, are only compatible with the Schwalbe tubeless system, this may or may not apply to your rims / tyres?
Oh well unless it is possible to covert them to tubeless it looks like I am going to be putting inner tubes back in!

Mine have black and silver stickers as opposed to the ones that have a red single sticker.
Mine aren’t tubeless compatible unless they are fitted with Schwalbe tyres.
Worth noting that your tires need to be tubeless ready too, if not they will leak sealant from the sidewalls.
I'm tubeless on gravel and MTB but not road bike as yet simply because I get very few (famous last words!) punctures on that one.
Slightly plusher ride on tubeless, dependent on pressures of course.
