I have started the process but likely to get a quicker answer on here.

£2k bike 4 months old yet im experiencing an issue with my front shifter/derailleur. 3 times now i have had to re index the front derailleur as it won't move over enough to push the chain onto the big ring. I've used up all the micro adjustment and i have to move the cable.

Now i understand it stretches but this goes far beyond any stretching i should be experiencing from about 800 miles of riding. In addition, at times, the front shifter gets stuck in the big ring position and takes 4-5 attempts to shift down. the internals are not moving and on pushing the shifter to the left it just won't move.

bought from a big dealer in Dereham and they say on their website that they don't have anything to do with warranties and it's the manufacturer etcetc.

So i assume parts will need to be sent to Shimano? can i take them to a local Shimano dealer? am i expected to take the grip tape, shifters etc off the bike??

LOL literally pressed "post" and then got a reply from the shop - very quick response and TBH not an expected outcome.

Thanks for your email. I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues with your front derailleur. You’re right in saying the cable stretches but it does sound like something else might be going on there if you’re having to keep adjusting it. If you can run the bike to your local bike shop and book it in for a gear service, we can cover the cost of this – a gear service will generally be in the region of £15 - £20.

I’m sure that it will just be a case of resetting the gears, but if there is something more please let us know. Please get in touch before having any components replaced if the local shop feels there is an issue with the shifter or derailleur for example.

With this statement on their web-site I wouldn't have bought from them.

Your contract is with the dealer, not the bike manufacturer and certainly not with Shimano. The dealer is responsible for the warranty - at least they are responding in an appropriate manner. I presume that if parts need replacing they will want to supply them.

The warranty statement on their website does sound iffy however their response to you sounds reasonable so far.

Cube Attain GTC Race with 105 ST-R7020.

Booked in at my local shop (leamington) but not unitl 8th Oct. i just can't think what would be affecting the shifter and derailleur unless it's a frayed cable somewhere jamming the shifter and stretching sooner than intended

Two things here...

Firstly your warranty is with the shop you bought the bike from. Don't ever let them fob you off.

Secondly - this really doesnt sound like a warranty issue. Its just an adjustment/setup issue. It sounds like you've fiddled with it and made it worse. Take it to a shop, get the mechanic to give it a proper gear service and tune up and it'll be fine.
The other possibile alternative is incorrect routing of the inner through the shifter assembly which is easily done on 105 like that.

('cable stretch' isnt even just stretch, its also the outer sections, in particular the pressed on cable ends compressing and the cable ends being drawn further into their stops, that makes the inner of the bowden cable appear longer, relative, to its outer. This is why its worse with a full inner/outer replacement than it is with just a new inner. . )
