Hi
I am just about to enter the world of Zwift , I have a wahoo kicker and connected it up to my I phone .
Now I am wanting to buy a Tv to transfer what I see on my I phone to the TV .

I am looking to buy a 43inch tv new and believe my easiest option is to buy one with Apple tv installed ?

Now I am a complete numpty with tech and modern stuff , in really basic terms could someone tell me what tv I should buy ?

It is only going to be used in my man cave so dont care about the latest width of a bit of plastic round the edge or how micro thin it is .

Any help or links would be really appreciated

D

You need an actual Apple TV box to run Zwift rather than just a TV that has the Apple TV app.

A TV that has Airplay 2 should allow wireless screen mirroring if you phone is reasonably new, but obviously do some research on your exact hardware before buying anything.

Zwift is not particularly graphically demanding but does have the capability to look pretty decent at the max setting on a modest spec PC. Other devices tend to get a reduced quality version.

So a TV with the Apple TV " app " or Apple TV + thing on it is not the same as an Apple TV box ( plus i believe if I did buy an Apple TV box it needs to be a 4K one ? is this correct ?

I have wifi hard wired connection in my man cave so would prefer to hard wire it if possible , are you saying that just using a lightning connector to hdmi wouldnt work ?

I dont really want to go down a PC route if I can get the same with a TV .

I have an I phone 6 currently , but am happy to upgrade if needed

You need Airplay screen mirroring, not the Apple TV app. Zwift runs surprisingly well when mirrored from my Macbook to my LG CX TV.

I was in the same boat as you just after Christmas. I was using an old phone and mirroring the screen to a tv, I tried various methods but eventually spent £90 on a 4k apple TV box from CEX and its so much better!

I regularly lost connection with the phone, part of the screen was cut off both sides and the image wasn't clear at all. I also struggled selecting options on the screen with the phone but despite people saying the apple tv remote is bad its much better than using the phone!

I’ve found airplay mirroring to be really finicky, and the appletv to be a bit inconsistent with its desire to connect to devices. As someone has mentioned, an iPhone to hdmi for about £50 just works.

I use a Samsung Tablet screen mirrored to a Panasonic TV. Works absolutely fine with no lag or issues.

Samsung TV's seem to have all this stuff built in right?

I run zwift on my macbook and airplay it to samsung without any additional kit required. It was a little laggy until I hardwired the TV though, which was easy enough from the mesh BT disc in this room.

Buy an Apple TV and then just any old TV to plug it into.

Another Lightning cable user here - all works fine albeit is shockingly expensive for a bit of wire! :-)

I use a non smart tv with an Apple TV box, possible a gen 2 model so reasonably old now and then mirror zwift from my iPhone, works okay most of the time and only had a couple of hiccups, where the mirroring has stopped.

From what I understand The newer Apple TV boxes (4th gen onwards) allow zwift to be downloaded directly to it, allowing you to use your iPhone for the companion app if you wanted to or not at all. I found mirroring my phone does cause it to drain its battery quickly and can become quite warm at time when plugged in

Thank you for all your replies , much appreciated

I went for an LG smart tv but not 4k , then used a lightning / usb cable ( including charging phone ) and pluged it to the HDMI on the tv .

Works great once again thank you for your time replying
