I’m looking for a new hard tail bike and someone suggested a Whyte bike to me but I don’t really know much about them. I’m wanting to spend under £1k and thought somebody on here may have one that can tell me if there any good.

i have a 2019 801 v2
does everything i wanted, i've upgraded the forks to Fox 34 Kashima and the wheels to Mavics, carbon bars, not out of need but the forks and wheels are a long story!
v4 looks to have better forks than the hydraulic ones that came on mine, the rest looks same spec albeit £200+ what i paid - forks maybe plus general increases?
slack geometry, comfortable, only real gripe is a very low BB but depends on what terrain you ride, mine is mainly fire, gravel roads , singletrack no downhill stuff, jumps etc.
had a few issues with the seatpost clamp, claimed to be all singing , dancing, dogs danglies but a conventional clamp is better IMO, carbon paste has cured it for now.
1x 10sp is ample, cheaper cassettes than 11-12 as well and i changed to a 28t chainring - unfit bugger.
chainring is SunTour DM specific so not off the shelf but cheap enough although maybe need to plan if you want to replace.
i've also just changed to RaceFace crankset, again a long story but essentially to upgrade another bike i have to 1x....any excuse to spend rolleyes
