I currently have a tarmac sl6 which came with Roval C38's (disc) as standard. I understand these are an 'entry level' carbon wheel. They have DT350 hubs. I find them ok, I wouldn't say I've noticed much difference from an alloy wheelset.

Would I feel a difference if I were to upgrade to say an ENVE SES on a DT 240? I also like the look of the campy bora wto 45 but my OCD would go mad having campy wheels on a shimano geared bike!

Any other options? ZIPP? Roval CLX 50? Or stick with the C38?

Depends how good a rider you are! - imagine any of those £1500 sets would add a few watts

I have a Venge Expert with both the original CLX24 alloys and C38 upgrade wheelsets. For me the difference is like night and day when i was swapping them around, c38 so much better than the relatively nice alloys. I'm not a good rider, so whenever shiny new wheels turned my head, guessed that it wouldn't be worthwhile.

this is cycling though - for me its the Bora's that look the most tempting. or Lightweight if your wallet is heavy enough....

I’ve upgraded my C38’s to Zipp 303 firecrest’s.

They are lighter, wider and the freehub sounds ace, due to the 25mm internal width, running 62psi and 66psi F/R on a 28mm tyre, so nice and comfy too.

Definitely feel like an upgrade to me.

I'm sure I've read somewhere else that the zipp freehubs aren't that durable? Have you found them OK?

I just put a set of Bora WTO 60's on my bike, which had an £1500 pair of Mavic Cosmics on originally. I have felt a difference with the new wheels, they are lighter for a start, the campag freehub spins forever, they are better behaved in wind which is surprising given their extra depth and seem stiffer than the mavics, and of course they look awesome.

I think that’s worth noting - the main difference I’ve ever noticed between owning most of the brands mentioned on this thread in various depths from 303’s to Enve 6.5 is that some are better in the wind, never felt like there was a noticeable difference in speed. Yes over a box rim but not among the other deeps.

The bora wto is by far the best looking wheel set on the market IMO, my only concern with them is they’re not as wide as my C38 which I run with 28mm tyres. Obviously I can run 28s still but I’ve kind of bought into the whole ‘wider is better’ argument for rims and tyres, I suspect in the real world it makes little difference and I probably just get sucked in by the marketing!

I also have Roval C38's with the DT350 hubs on 28c Spec Turbo tyres. I've done circa 5,600 miles on them and they're bulletproof.

Only two punctures and no difference to a low profile alloy in side wind which was my original concern.

I like the DT Swiss hubs as they're durable and easy to get spares unlike previous Fulcrum wheels and hubs.
