My Whyte Shoreditch needs new tyres. I use it for urban/suburban tootling about.

It currently has 700 x 28c Vittorias on it (which it came with), and I wouldn't mind going to 32 or even 35s. The frame is more than big enough; the current version of the bike comes with 37s now.

Will my rims limit tyre width? Apparently they are 32mm deep sections.

TIA

32mm might be your maximum. On the rim it should say somewhere 622x15. If it says this then 32mm is the max. If it is 622x17 you can go even bigger.

I looked up your rims as Shining A-240 but couldn't get an exact match to those you described.

Thank you. They're not 15 or 17. They're 16. biggrin

I found something to say the ideal tyre to rim ratio is 1.8:1

So my 16mm rims would take a 28.8, which is what I've already got. Sounds like I'm stuck with that then.

I've never had a problem with my current tyres, I just felt wider would be a little more robust for kerbs and uneven road surfaces.

Here is the slightly out dated graph which shows you what tyres can go on what width rims.

Thank you. I found another one which suggests I can manage about 32 maximum.
