Hi, apologies for the boring thread but i need to buy some new pedals for my bike. It's a Carrera crossfire 2 hybrid bike so nothing fancy, is there any benefit it getting anything other than your bog standard plastic ones?
Willing to spend up to about £20 and I have a voucher for Amazon so if anyone could send me a link to some decent ones on there that would be great.

Plastic ones tend to break and be a bit slippery.

If you have no problem with them then change them if/when they break.

The metal flats do a nice job on your shins if you do slip. I have a nice scar to prove it smile

Something like these. Decent quality caged flat pedals.

MTB flats are overkill for road use and sooner later the pins will do your calves/shins some damage.

What shoes will you be wearing?
I've run MTB flats on my road bikes before to good effect. Yes, the pins are quite vicious but the point is, with soft soled trainers you won't slip off.
I sometimes have need to wear a proper leather soled shoe on my town bike (possibly also a Carrera, though drop barred) which would be useless with flats so elect for good old fashioned clips and straps.
I've never owned a pair of caged pedals that were fit for purpose without some hefty modification, or the addition of clips and straps.

Thanks for the replies. Will just be wearing normal trainers, I've only just got the bike back from my stepson who was using it to get to college and back and wanted to go on a few rides while the weather is good (looks outside at torrential rain). Will only be 10 miles or so if that, but just wondered if there was any benefit in getting something else over the bog standard plastic pedals.

Definitely worth upgrading. Better pedals is one if the cheapest and best upgrades you can do, the plastic ones bikes come with are carp.

Bought these recently and they seem reasonable enough for £15. Didn't want to pay loads on MTB pedals for a commute bike so these seem to be cheap enough, weigh less and are quite so wide on a hybrid so as not to appear 'oversized'
